STRENGTHS
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Friendliness - Ever is able to talk to just about anyone as long as they're nice to her. It helps her out a lot since she's homeless and on the streets. This part of her personality has made her some friends and gotten her a free meal or two in the past.
- Patience - She's been in and out of foster care for much of her life and has had to interact with many different personalities so she's learned the difference between someone who is just a jerk and someone who has some layers to get through before you get to the good stuff. She's good at getting to know those people.
- Lying - Everleigh really is a good kid but since she's so young and so alone most of the time she's had to get used to bending the truth to protect herself. She doesn't give up personal details about herself very easily.
- Brave - She's not one to run from a situation where someone might need her help. She might be scared but she would do anything for anyone and wouldn't be able to live with herself if she just let something happen to someone.
- Loyalty - Once she trusts you and is your friend then she's a friend for life. Since she doesn't have family she takes the relationships she does build very seriously and is dedicated to those she lets into her life.
WEAKNESSES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Temper - She has a lot of patience but when she does get mad she usually ends up getting herself into trouble for her mouth and what she might say or do. She's been known to kick a person in the shins if she's pissed enough.
- Homelessness - She's a thirteen year old living on the streets so she's obviously vulnerable to attacks, whether she's a werewolf or not. She's still just a kid.
- Too Trusting - She really wants to believe that people have good intentions and that can lead to disaster if she trusts the wrong person.
- Silver - She's a werewolf so silver is not her friend.
- Poor - She does have to steal to survive sometimes but it's usually just food from a convenience store. She's not a pick pocket or anything.
LIKES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Winter - She does have a nice, thick coat, after all when she's in wolf form and running around and playing in snow as a wolf is her favorite thing. Plus she would rather be cold than hot.
- Candy - She has a horrible sweet tooth and will steal candy when she can get away with it. She's a kid, she can't help herself.
- Animals - She's always been a big fan of cats, dogs, rabbits, frogs, turtles...as long as she knows it won't hurt her then she's good with it.
- Other werewolves - She's always really excited when she comes across someone else who's like her. It makes her feel not as alone in the world.
- Glitter - Not necessarily bling but glitter in general. If it's sparkly then it makes her smile.
DISLIKES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Getting yelled at - Its one of the few things that will make her cry.
- Crying in front of others - And this is one of the few things that will make her run away from anyone else.
- Evil beings - She doesn't hate a particular species but if you're a bad person/being then she's not going to be your friend.
- Rude people - Its like nails on a chalkboard to her. It gets on her nerves when people aren't polite.
- Hot weather - Sweating makes her cranky. She hates it when it's summer time.
- Bugs - She's really afraid of bugs and spiders and anything else that a typical girl wouldn't like.
HISTORY
Everleigh was born to Kyle and Adelyn Mason on February 13, 1999. They lived in Boston, MA which is where Ever was born. Everleigh was actually born two weeks early after her parents were in a car accident which forced Adelyn's labor. Ever had to be cut from her mother's womb after her mother died in the accident. It was just Everleigh and her dad after that. Ever's father's personality was a lot like Ever's. He was very kind and patient and gave as much attention to his daughter as his military career would allow. She was his whole world after they lost Adelyn and he treated her like the sun rose and set with her. Even though she was only four when the attack happened, Everleigh has a lot of fond memories of her dad. Her fondest was how her dad had a liking for tacky, Hawaiian shirts and would let Everleigh go shopping with him and pick out her favorite. It was usually the brightest, most colorful shirt there was in the store but her dad would wear it anyway just to humor his little girl.[/BLOCKQUOTE]
Everleigh and her father moved around a lot because her dad was in the army. They've lived in a ton of different places but moved to LA to be closer to her father's mother after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and stayed after she passed away.
Her life with her dad was pretty happy and uneventful. She didn't mind all the moving. Ever was so young at the time that she didn't really think much about it. It wasn't like she was in school or making any real friends that she would miss when they left. Eventually, they settled in Adelyn's family home in LA and had two dogs, Patch and Oliver. Patch was a German Shepard and Oliver was a Golden Retriever. Ever's dad would try to let her help out taking care of the dogs but being that she was so young at the time she could only really take them outside to play and help feed them. Still, the dogs were the best friends the kid had until she was taken away after the attack. Everleigh doesn't know what happened to them after that.
Ever's mother had a brother, Drake, that had been institutionalized for most of his adult life with a mental illness. He showed a violent temper at a young age, often lashing out at those around him when he was angry or upset about something. When he was a teenager he started hurting animals and his family feared that he would progress into more violent behavior as he got older. They had no idea that he was actually a werewolf and had been bitten when he snuck out of the house one night when he was fourteen. They placed him in a state mental facility when he was fifteen because they didn't know what else to do with him. They figured that was better than seeing him end up in jail.
Drake resented his whole family for locking him up. He blamed them all for taking away any chance he had at making a life for himself. Most of his time was spent fantasizing about the day when he could get free and take revenge on all of them. He figured that they took his life so he would take theirs.
He finally got his chance one day when he was twenty-three when one of the guards left a security door unlocked for a few minutes. Drake managed to slip through the door and out of the center. By the time the staff realized he was missing he was well away from the center and on his way to his parents' home, which was the last place he knew to find them.
Drake had no idea that both his parents had passed away by that time of natural causes and Adelyn and Kyle had inherited the house. Since Adelyn died the home went to Kyle. Drake broke in through the back door and found Kyle in the kitchen. He took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Kyle to death. Everleigh heard the struggle and went to see what had happened and walked in on the very end of the attack. When Drake saw her, he grabbed her and managed to stab her in the stomach before he was interrupted by a neighbor who heard a commotion and came to investigate. Drake fled and the neighbor called 911. Everleigh lost a lot of blood but her wound ended up being rather minor, missing any major organs. Her father died on the scene. After that Everleigh was put into foster care. She's been an orphan since she was four years old. Drake is nowhere to be found. The cops couldn't track him down and Everleigh's attempted murder and the murder of her father are both still open cases.
Everleigh was bounced from foster home to foster home for different reasons over the years. Sometimes it was just that there was no room for her and she had to move somewhere else. There had been times that she's been moved because abuse was suspected in the home she was in and she was taken away. Ever had gotten lost in the system, though, since she was about eleven. The case worker she had retired and the new person that took over her care wasn't as observant and didn't check up on her situation as much. It was only when Ever started showing up to school with no lunch and no money in dirty clothes and it seemed that she hadn't bathed in a while that a teacher reported neglect and Ever was moved to yet another foster family.
The experience of having to go to school in that condition and having the teacher report her like that was so humiliating for Ever that she stopped going to school soon after running away from her last foster home. It didn't occur to her to go to the police because she thought that all they would do was put her in yet another home and the same cycle would start all over again. She doesn't trust authorities like that anymore. She thinks that if she stayed in foster care that eventually someone would have seriously hurt her and that she's better off taking care of herself. Most of her time now is spent hiding from the police and trying to figure out how to survive on her own.
It was a few weeks after she ran from her last foster home that she was attacked by a werewolf and turned. She was walking down a dirt road, away from the building she was staying in when he jumped out of the woods and was on her before she could react. He bit into her but was scared off by a noise nearby. A man came out of the woods, found Everleigh and took her to a hospital, thinking it was just some rabid animal that attacked the girl.
Everleigh is still getting used to her werwolf form and shifting. She's on her own so on full moons she tries to make sure she's staying in a place that is very isolated from humans so she won't hurt anyone.
True to her personality, Everleigh doesn't believe that all supernaturals are evil or dangerous to her but, being that she has no one protecting her or caring for her, she's not oblivious to the fact that she could run into the wrong sort and be hurt or killed. She's cautious around supernaturals but she won't treat them differently than anyone else she meets. She would have to get to know them as individuals first before making any judgments.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
It will be very easy for Ever to meet people since she's living on the streets and has to move around so much. It gives her plenty of opportunities to run into various people in different locations. With her personality, I can see her making some friends easily but also maybe making some enemies since she is a werewolf and not everyone will be accepting of that fact. I would like to see her open up to someone and bond a bit more, maybe even find someone she trusts enough to stay with and get off the streets but there are plenty of plot possibilities for her while she's on her own, too.[/BLOCKQUOTE]

Being surrounded by nature had always made Everleigh feel safe...well, as safe as she could feel sleeping outside. It wasn't anywhere near the first night Everleigh's done this and it sure as hell won't be the last. It was hard for the child to believe that it's been four months that she's been living this way but there it was.
Four months yesterday.
She could still so clearly remember escaping out of the first floor bathroom window of the last foster home she had been in. She had had to wait two days in the dark closet of the bedroom before she had a chance to even attempt to leave. The poor kid had been beaten so badly that she had to crawl to get out of the room. Every movement had felt like a tremendous effort but finally she had found the strength to climb onto the bathroom counter and out of the window. That was the first night she had spent outside in her life.
She had stumbled and tripped her way through the woods before finally falling onto the soft grass in the park. The cool blades had been a comfort against her bruised skin. She couldn't move another muscle and she just laid there and let herself drift off to sleep. She never thought about how dangerous it was to sleep on the ground, out in the open in a public park. She didn't think about who would find her or what would happen if they did. All she knew was that she was hurt and scared and exhausted and couldn't move again.
And she hadn't moved that night. Ever since...every once in a while, Everleigh would come back to the park and spend another night out among the stars. She still never thought about the danger involved in doing that. She thought of it more like camping. It wasn't like she had a tent or sleeping bag or anything but still. Laying on the grass with her arms folded behind her head, staring at the night sky was so peaceful that she couldn't deny herself the pleasure.
That was what she was doing tonight. She had had that urge again to be free of four walls (or less depending on the condition of the building she was squatting in). She found herself wandering into the park and right over to her usual spot at the edge of the woods. It was just behind one of the benches and between two far-spaced bushes. Anyone coming into the park would see her but she didn't much care. She was a skilled liar at this point and could make up some story on the fly if she had to. She laid herself down on the grass, glancing around just long enough to note that there weren't a lot of people around. Then again, it was almost ten o'clock at night. Not many people were out and about, especially in a park, at ten at night. That was just fine with Everleigh.
It wasn't that she was an unfriendly child. Just the opposite, actually. She would talk to anyone that would talk to her. She just wanted to enjoy the peace and quiet of her surroundings for a while before someone came upon her. Her first night here no one had found her and she was hoping for that luck again. Still, if someone did approach her, she would do what she always did and talk to them for a while anyway.
