OOC Takes place between "First Day" and "Crime Scene"
IC Mike let out a breath as he finished his report and then placed it to the side. This was the part of being a police officer he wasn't so fond of: all of the paperwork. However, it was necessary. At least it wasn't so bad when you were on top of things. However, along with his individual cases, he was familiarizing himself with cases that the department was handling as a whole. And from the sparse talk around the precinct, the latest one was kind of...weird, for lack of a better term, though he didn't know all of the details. Just that a drug dealer had been killed, but that they didn't know who had done it or what kind of a weapon that had been used. He pulled his next report towards him and then his cell phone---which he had put on vibrate due to the lateness of the hour---buzzed. Mike's brows furrowed. Who could be calling him? He didn't really know anybody here and the only people in New York who had his number were his parents, Jesse, and a few friends from his old precinct. The phone buzzed again and Mike grabbed his phone and looked down. Then, his jaw hardened and pressed the "Hang up" button. He had no interest in talking with Ben. Not after what had happened. They were over and done with and he knew that. The officer then went back to the report and started filling it out. The phone buzzed again. Seeing the same number, he hung up the phone once more and returned to his work. The phone rang a third, revealing the same number. With a growl of frustration, Mike pushed his phone across the table. Then, he winced as it reached the end and clattered to the floor. "Great Mike. Real smooth," he muttered to himself. He then stood up, went around the table, and bent down to pick up his phone.

Daryl just came out of the Captain's office where he had a conversation about something that Daryl had began to notice around him and get the feeling more and more of someone following him, and honestly one of the first thoughts that went through his mind was something or someone supernatural for some reason or some kind of hunter, but he wasn't so sure anymore, and there wasn't any Internal Affairs investigation going either so it shouldn't be them... But the Captain just told him to keep an eye out and if he needed any help or protection, he could just ask. Well he didn't know about that, there was another option that went through his mind but... No, she wouldn't, at least that was what he still thought, for now.
He walked back toward his desk, which is still only was even though he still hadn't given up on getting his own office and on his way his eyes caught Mike when he got closer, but mostly heard the guy's phone buzzing multiple times, clearly on vibrate but with Daryl's increased hearing and senses he had still instantly noticed it on his way back. Once he was close enough he dropped a file on his own desk and then walked over to Mike's and smiled while leaning slightly against his desk and crossing his arms in front of him as Mike was picking up his phone on the ground. 'Dude, for one if you actually hang up before a few rings, people tend to notice and call even more.' He told him as a tip to keep in mind with a smile and wink and then shrugged. 'And secondly, why the Hell aren't you picking up anyway?' He asked as his eyebrows rose upwards curiously.

As Mike picked up the phone, he noticed Daryl walking up. Oh, great. How much of this did he see? he wondered. Before he could voice the question, however, his phone buzzed again. Mike checked the number and then hung up. Then Daryl made a comment about how people tended to call back when they were hung up on and then asked why he wasn't picking up. "Bad breakup; I said it was over, they're not listening. And they know why it's over," he answered, pocketing his cell phone. Yeah, Ben know why it had ended. Heck, he was the cause of it. They had only been going out for a few months and they had had their first fight. They had argued, each getting louder and louder. Then Ben had thrown a punch. Or rather, had tried to throw a punch. Mike had been fortunate enough to block the strike and had promptly thrown him out, stating that they were over. He had been done that road once he when he was a teen and he had sworn never again. "Anyways, they've been calling or a couple days now. I'm gonna block the number either tomorrow or the next day. It's not really a big deal," he went on.
He leaned against his desk and let out a sigh. "So my paperwork's been a bear. How 'bout yours?" he asked. He had to get Daryl's mind off of the phone call. He didn't wanna even think about what was going on. He just wanted to move on, do his job, maybe settle down with a nice girl or guy eventually and keep people safe. Was that so much to ask?

After Daryl had walked up to Mike and his repeatedly buzzing phone, it happened quickly enough again that before either of them could say anything more, the phone buzzed again and once again Mike checked the number and then hung up again which made Daryl roll his eyes and laugh a little before shaking his head and looking back at Mike who stated that it had to do with a bad breakup and that they knew why it was over. 'Couldn't you just... Block the number? And by the way... They? I hope that was wrongly pronounced and not that you were dating and now ignoring multiple people?' Daryl asked with a small teasing laugh because he just wanted to keep the mood somewhat light, this job was way to serious already, and his life outside of work totally wasn't a joy either after all.
'If it's not a big deal, why haven't you blocked it already? Why are you still taking the trouble of actually checking the number and then actually hanging up? I mean we're cops, and I think that if it was too soon to actually block the number, an easier step further would have been to put the phone on vibrate.' Daryl said as he was kind of analyzing what he noticed and thought about this and tilted his head to the side somewhat. 'But okay, if you want to act like there's nothing, that's fine by me.' Daryl said as he put up his hands in surrender for a moment, letting him know that he wasn't going to push him. He started laughing for a moment when he heard the change of subject to the paperwork and shrugged. 'I don't sleep that much honestly, so I just finished.' He chuckled proudly because that always give him some space and time to decide what he wanted to do or just take some rest, not that it always panned out great, with his thoughts so much going to the dark places, but still, this talk gave him a good distraction too from that.

Mike let out a small laugh as Daryl commented on the word "they" and that he hoped that he wasn't dodging multiple callers. I could see where someone would jump to that conclusion, he thought to himself. "No. Just one caller. I'm a one person-dater. It just sometimes pays to be discreet. I'm not exactly having girl trouble...if you get my drift," he answered.
Mike's eyes clouded as Daryl then asked why he kept checking the number and why he hadn't blocked the number yet if it was no big deal. "Because the breakup and transfer happened really close together and I wanted to get my bank squared away before blocking the numbers. If I had done it right away, with my luck, I'd end up losing my plan," he answered with a roll of his eyes. He really did have the worst luck sometimes. "And I keep checking the number because sometimes a friend of mine calls around this time," he added. Unless he's in the middle of a hunt or something, he thought to himself.
Daryl went on to mention that if it was too soon to block the number, it was easier to put the phone on vibrate. "It is on vibrate," he told him. And he heard it? How could he hear it? He went through a mental list of the Supernatural creatures he had heard about from Jesse and had seen in New York, but the only two creatures he could recall having exceptional hearing were vampires and werewolves. And given the fact that he had seen his partner during the day meant that he was probably a werewolf. Well, no reason to mention it. He probably didn't mean to slip like that and I'm not going to call him on it, he thought.
He chuckled when the man stated that he didn't really sleep much. "Night owl huh? You must be a good partner for a stakeout," he commented.

Daryl kept his eyes on Mike for now as he listened to his answer of it just being one caller, and him being a one person dater too, but that he wasn't exactly having girl trouble, if he got his drift. He slightly pulled up his eyebrows at that and tilted his head then before shrugging and smiling. 'That's not a problem, dating is dating right?' He said simply, not making any conclusions but he had an idea what Mike had hinted at.
His face stayed thoughtful again as he sighed a bit and then looked toward the ceiling for a moment. 'Yeah... let's just keep it at that love is a mess, especially when it doesn't work out or... The other person just hates you.' He said before shrugging yet again with his shoulders and looking back at Mike with a look that he understood it. 'Well if that friend calls, just tell me and I'll leave you to it, I don't think I'm really the guy to give you any dating advise or anything.' He said with a short laugh because for him it was only half a joke.
Daryl frowned shortly before his eyes narrowed somewhat too when Mike said that it was on vibrate already and Daryl didn't want to show to clearly that he had slightly given himself away a little, but it wouldn't do any harm right? For what he knew, Mike didn't know that much about the supernatural, even though he didn't think that he was a total naive person either. He hadn't said something too bad right? He didn't even say that he knew it was already on vibrate as far as he knew so he just decided he was probably in the clear. 'I am, on both things, I am pretty much a night owl and I am pretty effective at stakeouts.' He said simply and joking pretty cocky as he smirked, there were more reasons he was good at stakeouts, but Mike didn't need to know that so he just threw a look at the phone, hoping now that if Mike continued on about it, this friend that would eventually call Mike would save him.

Mike gave a brief smile when Daryl commented that dating was dating. "True. But some people don't see it that way and I've gotten some flack for my choices," he responded. Then, he nodded in agreement when Daryl went on to say that love was a mess, especially if it didn't work out or the other person hated you. "Ain't that the truth?" Mike muttered to himself.
When Daryl stated that he'd leave him alone when Jesse finally called, and that he wasn't exactly one to come to for dating advice, Mike couldn't help the chuckle. "Sounds like you've got your own problems," he noted. Then, he noticed Daryl frowning right after being told that his phone had been on vibrate. Guess he's worried that he gave himself away, Mike thought. Well, he could play it off, make him feel more at ease. "Guess I didn't have it as quiet as I thought. Sorry man. I'll make sure next time," he apologized.
Mike laughed when Daryl responded semi-cockily that he was both a night owl and effective at stakeouts. "Your partners must love you," he smirked. Then, his phone buzzed again, and he glanced down. This time it was a text. Curious despite himself, the officer opened the text all the way. His eyes clouded. Another apology and a promise that he'd never let it escalate like that again. "Yeah, piss off," he mumbled, deleting the text. He wasn't going to fall into that trap again...
