Coming from a girl that can see the future, she really didn't see this coming to pass. It was fame, stardom and then rich husband back in Malibu. Not searching for fame, boredom and then spending her nights searching cases with as a trusty psychic. Things with Cooper had been tough. They busted a supernatural kid smuggling scheme together which he luckily got the publicity credit for, but then their was the 'incident' that landed the guy in hospital. Sure, lots of cops and family visited but for some estranged reason, Paiten was their nearly everyday. No matter if she had an audition, a nail appointment or plans, she shifted things to allow her to visit him and talk to him about some stuff she had seen around the city, about anyone that she has helped and whatever. She wasn't exactly sure why she constantly visited him, but she did. And she actually enjoyed it. But now things were in a kind of swing. Paiten came in nearly everyday, either with an appointment or by persuading the receptionist to not have noticed her come in. Even tonight, she sat in a seat, her legs curled up on the seat with her as she did research. She may be blond but she is not completely stupid.
''This is so fucking stressful. What world do we live in where psychos cleaned up so well after themselves that finding them is like impossible''. She stated out loud as she flicked through the reports. It was true, this guy really was tricky. The media called him 'Mind-Creeper'. He seems to have a thing about phobias. Paiten thought phobias were a type of cellphone for the first five minutes but she soon learnt that they are fears. At random, some guy has tracked their fear and killed them with it. But it all showed. Some guy killed by spiderbites that were reported as stolen from the college's biology lab. It was creepy, and sick and he just kept coming. Looking to Cooper, she sighed. ''Oh wait, forever right''. She smirked as she slammed the file closed.
Tossing the file onto the desk, she let out a long breath. It was no use, this guy was tricky. But he is obviously messed because even if she tries to get a hint of a vision, or even track him, he is so shady and conflicted that it is kind of impossible. What a loser, seriously, just making life hard. She looked back to Cooper and wondered. ''Well, if you haven't found anything interesting yet, I am going to try and see what I can find on psychic-tube''. Sitting back, she closed her eyes and tried to focus for a bit. FLASH! Dead bugs. Fire. Broken glass. A dark room. FLASH! Her eyes shot open. Failure again, this completely sucked. Sighing, she rolled her eyes. ''Damn it! Nothing but bugs, glass and fire. Last time it was drugs and lightbulbs. FML!''. She exclaimed as she rubbed her temples with manicured nails and a pissed expression. Helping people really was hard work.

Things had really taken a turn for him in the past few weeks. He thought it was just his head hurting when he awoke in hospital and remembered Paiten explaining to him that she was a psychic and that these children they were rescuing weren't exactly of the 'normal' variety. But then he realized, after recovering not only from the blow to the head, but the gunshot wound to his shoulder, that she actually did tell him that. It took him a while to really believe her and understand where she was coming from, but here they were today, working in the same office, oddly enough. The even odder thing was, he had requested it. A lot had happened recently which had really opened his mind to the world around him. Psychic, magical children, what else could there possibly be lurking out there? Except for Mind Creeper, of course.
He had been in the force for quite a few years, and this guy was one of the more difficult cases he had taken on. He had a kickass psychic on his side, and yet, nothing. It was as if this guy was just hidden altogether, he really couldn't understand it. This man stole certain things which provoked 'phobias' out of people, hence the theft locally. And then he used these phobias to kill the person. The pathetic thing was, this guy didn't have the balls to kill them himself. He just watched, letting the victims torture themselves to death. He remembered reading the case files...Seeing the images. A guy who had encountered spiders shocked himself into a full body shut down. A girl afraid of the sea was drowned in her own bathtub. The woman afraid of heights was from from a twenty-story building, dying as if she had committed the act herself. But he knew better than that. This guy was cunning, calculative and extremely smart which made finding him even more difficult. He hoped Paiten would find something soon.
She seemed to be having difficulty, and he sighed when she didn't have any luck except envisioning bugs. "We've got a phobia-killing lunatic on the loose, and all these powers can give you is visions of bugs? Thats gotta be....Wait! Bugs? If I'm not mistaken, bugs are a rather common phobia. Do you think that could be who his next target is?" His body jolted. They needed to find any people who had bug phobias. Firstly, they just had to figure out how the heck they were supposed to find out that. What were they supposed to do, a community poll?

A psychic and a detective; who would have thought! You would think that it would make life easier. Paiten - well, sometimes liked to help people. Cooper was paid for it, but it should make his job and her 'purpose' or whatever, a little bit better. But when you come across skitzos like this, it wasn't easy. Paiten couldn't figure out why she couldn't connect properly and find out who the next victim is. She got through high school by seeing the results to exams the day before. But something was blocking her, and it pissed her off. This crappy, crappy life these powers had brought to her and she can't use them. Not unless she thought of something extravagent but - no! God decided to make her blonde. Sighing, she rubbed her forehead with manucured nails as she listened to him. A cute guy but a freak-out he was. Looking to him, her legs still tucked up under her and looked at the information in front of her before looking up to him.
Maybe he had something. After basically being negative and - kind of hurting her feelings a little bit - he had a point. Bugs were a common fear. They scared the shit out of Paiten. If their is a spider in her house she will eat in the car, she didn't care. But it can be really terrifying for some people, but it was something. He was a smart guy, but it really was impossible to determine who it could be. Unless she tried something. ''OMG! You are so right! I mean, bugs scare the crap out of people. There's arachniphobia and um, creepy-crawlyphobia. If he wanted to kill someone by what looked like a mixture of maggots and beatles, it could be messy. But the only way I can think is if I connect to the spirits. How fucking fun that can be''. Focusing, she closed her eyes. Her mouth twitched slightly as she connected with the energies of the nearest spirit to connect to the spirit realm. It gave a headache, granted, but it worked most of the time. She felt a spirit getting closer through behind her, but then stopped. Her eyes shot open and she looked at Cooper. She remembered something crucial.
''They were dead. Dead bugs, like they had been used. He wouldn't use dead bugs to get to someone. They would have been alive. So - -''. It made sense. It happened in front of her eyes. The broken glass from a bottle. He used them to try and cut the maggots from under his skin. The fire fried the left over bugs. It wasn't something for them to stop, the next victim or whatever. It was the past. There was nothing they could do now. Mind Creeper had struck again. It wasn't someone to save. Someone had been killed by bugs. Her eyes shot open as she looked at him. A tear welled in her eye as she looked into his eyes. ''He killed a man.....''.

He watched as Paiten connected to the spirits, still feeling slightly uncomfortable about the whole thing. It wasn't that he didn't trust her power, because he did, it was just a bizarre situation that he was put in. He was working with a psychic, how pathetic did that sound?! Hence why he hadn't told anyone else that she was actually psychic, just that she was the receptionist who conveniently 'receptioned' in his office moreso than the receptionists' desk. He knew about the jokes going around the office of why she was in here all the time, but it was better thinking of those than thinking of the jokes that he had been working with a psychic on a lot of his cases lately.
He looked at the horror on Paiten's gentle face as she spoke of him killing someone. He begun to feel frustrated, angered and defeated. A man was dead because they couldn't stop it in time! He slammed his hand on the desk, getting to his feet and pacing the room, fist clenched under his chin before he begun to look out the window, the frustration evident in his expression. "Dammit!" He said with anger in his tone, however coming out rather softly. He sighed, feeling defeated by this sicko. It was pissing him off, they had a freaken psychic on their side and yet this guy was still able to go around freely killing people. There were so many questions...So many left unanswered in this case. And he wanted the damn answers!
He turned back to Paiten. "Whoever out there gave you these powers...Is it just some kind of joke to them that they decide to give all the information after the guy is killed? This is bullshit. We can't stop this guy if we are always two steps behind him. How does he keep getting away with killing people?" He sighed, running a hand through his hair as he tried to figure this whole thing out but was falling short.

He was frustrated, she was frustrated. It was just frustrating. It was like trying to catch smoke with a net, and she didn't know what to do. The spirits couldn't help with something like this and it isn't like she can stare into a crystal ball. She had to wait for the signs, but maybe she had to concentrate more. All she knew is that the guy was dead and something was cloaking the killer. He was good, very good. Paiten just had to be better and if she is anything it is competitive. Looking at Cooper, he was really pissed. But was he blaming her? If he didn't have her, then he would have no idea. She was trying her best to help since she was as dumb as a doornail, and really hated the blame that was directed towards her. So she did what she would always do in response to something like this, she talked back. "Listen here Mr All-That-And-A-Packet-Of-Chips, I am doing my fucking best to fucking help you in this fucking sitch. I don't get sent this shit, I pick it up. Now - can we talk and not be so judgemental now, god!".
Flicking her hair back, she thought for a second more. God she was stupid! It was so obvious and of course she ignored them. Now that she thought of it, it buzzed inside her. It was amazing really how blonde she could be, but looking to the files she wondered. Being a psychic, she is able to see the past of an object through touch by picking up the psychic remnants. She hadn't tried it because she is a dick, so she decided to try it now. "Wait, I've got it. Ever since I was little, if I focus on an object I can see it's past experiences. Maybe I can find something connected to one of these reports". In both hands, she focused as she picked up bits and pieces. It was then that she found it. Pulling out a slip of paper, it read Ed Hardwick who was a criminal in '52 where he murdered people claiming to 'hate people, they shouldn't exist'. It was the only thing that she was picking up connected to Mind-Creeper. But it made no sense, this was like over sixty years ago?
An eyebrow rose as she then looked up at Cooper, until the lights went out. Darkness cloaked the after hours of the police station as Paiten then looked around. Weird much, and even focusing on the lights, she couldn't turn them on. Inconvenient timing if you asked her. But then she looked to Cooper and felt a feeling of worry. Probably not from him, but from around the station. It was something bad coming, and she didn't have to be told twice that it was Mind-Creeper. Paiten rose as she looked around, looking to Cooper's office doors and locking it with her mind. "Cooper, don't freak out but I am pretty sure that MC is in the building". She said as she looked around, before the vents were smashed off and an overload of snakes poured out of them. Oh god Paiten hated snakes!

He sighed as she became defensive based on what he had said. She was right, he shouldn't be blaming her for anything or taking out his frustrations on her. She couldn't control that psychic thing or anything, he should feel lucky to even have someone like Paiten who could assist him, otherwise he wouldn't have even known about this case. Investigations like these weren't always as up to date as he would have liked, so the extra assistance was always good. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't be taking this out on you...Its just this case, its getting to me. I've just got a lot of stuff on my plate right now, I'm sorry..." He smiled softly, putting his hand on her shoulder, hoping she wouldn't think he was a complete asshole because he really didn't think he wasn't. He just had difficulty controlling his anger at times.
Soon Paiten acknowledged that this man was actually in this building. This building?! Was he onto them, or something? How was that even possible, he thought he was the one with the psychic advantage, not the other way around. "Freak out? Its a little late for that. What could this guy want here, he couldn't know that we're onto him, could he?" He shot her a look of confusion. He was sure she didn't have the answers, but he felt like asking anyway just because he had no idea how any of this was possible. There was nothing at the police force which could be of any value to this guy, was there?
He stood up, rubbing his forehead softly for a moment, before going to his locked compartment in one of his drawers and pulling out a shot gun, then looking towards Paiten. "I would say stay here while I go out there...But since he got this far, he'd probably be expecting that. Looks like we gotta partner this one through." He shot her a nervous look, hoping he wasn't going to get Paiten into any unneeded danger.

With the lights dark and just them too, it was kind of romantic. It could be the master time for Paiten to make a move. But the whole 'serial-killer stalking them and going to try and kill them' thing would have been a bit of a buzz kill. She whipped herself around and looked to the door, feeling like she felt something down the hall. But Cooper couldn't think of why he was here, and what he wanted. It was a good question. How did he know they were onto them? How could he without - wait. Paiten had a thought and then closed her eyes, scanning the building for him. She could feel him, but it was like their was some kind of block stopping her from connecting with him. What in the hell was going on here? But then when the voice echoed in her head did she understand it. "Marco, Paiten. Marco. But you can't find me". Her eyes shot open in fear. Looking to the door, she telekinetically swung it shut and turned to Cooper.
"He's psychic, Cooper. That is how he knows the phobias, that is how he could break into those places. It was how he was able to block my searches and only show me afterwards. He is playing with me. He knows I am psychic and he wants to stop us. And, I think I'm freaking out!". Looking to the door, she then saw it open slowly. Some other telekinetic force was acting upon it, and now this simple serial killer was probably going to kick their ass. She gripped onto Cooper's arm, noticing how big his arms are and also that the shot gun was probably going to be useless. It seemed that Paiten might need to help the cop, and protect him from some guy with a psycho Carie complex. But they now had to hunt the boogy man, how weird was that. She took a step forwards, her heals clopping on the ground slowly as she made her way forwards. Looking to Cooper, she nodded.
"Totes agree, hunny. We just really have to be careful". Then looking forwards, she was caught completely off guard. A dark figure could be seen at the end of the hall and then a force acted on her. Paiten shot through the doorway, smashing into the wall. Glass from a smashed police memorial cut her arm as she was dragged mentally across the floor and down the hall, the door behind her slamming shut. This was not how she planned the night. It was supposed to be stress, make-out and possibly sex. This wasn't the plans she had laid out for Paiten and Cooper really. But Paiten shot towards the figure but she couldn't focus, she was too busy screaming. But when she stopped on the floor, she looked up only to see a cloaked figure, the mind creeper and a large blade in his hand. Paiten screamed at the top of her lungs and rose a hand, trying to telekinetically shoot the blade from his hand. But he was too strong, and blocked her power. He let out a low chuckle and Paiten screamed as the blade rose into the air, ready to come down onto her.
