Luke blew out a breath as he walked into the club known as LA Fever. If Selena discovers I've snuck out, I'm sunk, he thought to himself. But a part of him didn't care. He needed this. Sure she owned him, but he wasn't going to deal with it, not tonight. Tonight was all about having a good time. He made his way over to the counter. "I'll have a Coke," he requested. The man made the beverage and then named the price. Luke dug into his pocket, took out the cash he had lifted from Selena's office, and gave it to the man. As he started to sip the soda, Luke's eyes clouded. He hadn't been this daring for years. The last time he had snuck out had been when he was like, what, about eleven? He wasn't sure what had enticed him to sneak out, but it was good to be free, even if it was just for a little while. Luke took another drink of the soda, letting the cool liquid calm his nerves. Hopefully, Selena wouldn't notice he was gone for a while and he could just...stay free....

He raised an eyebrow at the man next to him, who had ordered a coke. Coke, really? He was probably like ten years older than this boy, and coke was the last thing he felt like. Well, he couldn't be ten years on, as that would make this young man next to him illegally inside this bar, and right next to a cop by the way. He sighed softly as the cop thoughts begun clouding his mind again. He hadn't come here to investigate or play 'detective' tonight. He had come here to have a few beers and enjoy the night. No. Who was he kidding? Of course he was here scouting out potential crime scenes, he just couldn't help it, it was who he was, and Daniel Cooper was a work-a-holic, as much as he hated admitting it at times. He preferred the term 'valuing his profession' and wanting to help reduce the crime rate within Los Angeles, which was unfortunately like plucking a piece of hair from a haybale. He hated having to make the comparison with the crime rate in this city, but it was true. He felt so powerless about that fact.
"You know what, give me a double scotch on the rocks." He tilted his head slightly, and paid the cute female bartender the sum owed, before taking a quick swug, feeling the burning down his throat from how powerfully bitter the drink was. Screw the beer, he had been working longer than usual hours at work, which meant he needed a night of relaxation. And drinking a double scotch was also the perfect alias for hunting out suspicious activity at a club. The way he was going, he was going to be a regular at this place. They did make killer drinks, he couldn't refuse that thought.
He turned to the man next to him. "Are you new around here, haven't seen you before? I'm usually pretty good at remembering faces, even in a large city like this." He really didn't know why he was making conversation with the man. Maybe because he was the only one sitting within proximity of him at the bar, or maybe because he just felt like chilling back and talking with someone who didn't own a police uniform. Or maybe, he was tapping into the suspicions he had of this young man. Who was he, there was just something about him which striked him as strange and peculiar. The fact of the matter? Daniel was usually pretty good when it comes to sensing suspicions of people.

As Luke drank his coke, he became aware of someone staring at him. Looking out of the corner of his eye, he saw an older man sitting beside him. He turned from the man, trying to ignore the stare. "You know what, give me a double scotch on the rocks." Ah. So he had just come in for a drink. That didn't matter to him, as long as he was left alone. He had come to get away from Selena, not make small talk. "Are you new around here? Haven't seen you before. I'm usually pretty good at remembering faces, even in a large citiy like this." "Not exactly," Luke answered, shifting uncomfortably. Why would he say something like that? Had Selena discovered him missing? Was this guy working for her? He took another drink of his coke, hoping to dispell the man's questions. If he could just get the focus off of him, he could enjoy this night in peace.

He eyed this man as he spoke, taking another sip of his drink as he tried to 'work out' the man, and try and not act like a suspicious detective at the same time. Thats all he needed, for his cover to be blown aready, or something. He turned back to the bar, then back to the boy, almost in a state of boredom and need to talk to someone and find out more about him. "Nice place, huh? Do you come here often?" He was making simple conversation, while trying to assertain if this man had been here before, where if he had, he could have known about, been involved in or witnessed potential crimes taking place. There was just something about him which seemed off, and coming to a place like this with a suspicious look like that, didn't really look too good, from his view.
He then noticed some strange marks on the boy's neck, almost like hickeys, but at the same time, more-strange? He wasn't sure, but he was positive hickeys didn't look like that, even the bad cases. He had quite a few hickeys in his time to know what a bad hickey looks like, too. He took a longer sip of his drink, before glancing back over at the man, putting his elbows on the bar as he leant foward softly, looking at the boy's neck. "Those are some painful-looking broises on your neck. Do you often find yourself getting those kind of broises around here?" Maybe the broises didn't exactly mean he was causing trouble, it could always mean this man was an innocent but was caught up in the wrong kind of trouble and didn't want to tell in fear of something happening to him. Who was he kidding, was there anything else apart from the 'wrong kind of trouble' in this city?
He coughed in softly, focusing back on the boy. "I don't mean to come over as all 'in your face', but with everything that happens around this area, I just wasn't sure if you had, you know...Got caught in the crossfire or anything." Maybe he was dwelling too much into it, but he was a damn detective and seeing as this was his assignment, every single person in this club was a suspect, even the bartenders themselves.

"Nice place, huh? Do you come here often?" the man asked. "No. I, uh---I don't really get out much," Luke answered after taking another drink of his coke. "Those are some painful-looking bruises on your neck," the man commented and Luke's fingers flew to the mentioned marks. He had thought he had covered up Selena's marks completely. "Do you often find yourself getting those kind of bruises around here? he asked. "Oh, uh...they're nothin'," he answered. Why was this guy asking something like that? He must be working for Selena. She probably realized I was missing, he thought to himself. As if sensing his thoughts, the man went on. "I don't mean to come over as all 'in your face', but with everything that happens around this area, I just wasn't sure if you had, you know...Got caught in the crossfire or anything." "No, it's nothing like that," Luke told him. He then turned his attention back to his beverage. When he finally finished the beverage he stood up and headed for the exit.

From the responses he had gotten and the nervousness shown in this man's voice, he was obviously hiding something. This boy was a terrible liar and really bad at hiding secrets, it seemed. But what could Daniel do exactly, arrest him on suspicion of...He had nothing at the moment. Add that to the fact that his only suspicions were based on vibes he was getting from the other man. Vibes were good, his suspicions were usually accurate, however it wasn't that much to go on. If he wanted to find out more, he would have to catch this guy in the act, or hopefully find out something which he is so badly hiding.
The other man couldn't even look at him, instead deciding to turn to his beverage and finish it off. Daniel was slightly caught off guard when the man just got up and left without even saying anything. Maybe Daniel was just over-analysing the situation at hand, like usual, but he was entitled to have his suspicions, he was a detective after all. Maybe the man just thought he was some kind of stalker or one of those drunk dudes who just randomly talks to people at the bar. He really hoped that wasn't the lasting memory the boy had of Daniel, that would be terrible. He wouldn't want to lower himself to that stage, ever. He has been enough of people making fools of themselves to know that would be an extremely bad way to go.
He looked at the bartender with a sigh, ordering up another drink as he finished off the last. He would definantly be keeping an eye out for this boy and staying a bit longer in case something did decide to go down in LA Fever tonight. What else could he do really? It wasn't like he could stalk this boy, or anything. That would just completely blow his cover altogether, something he really couldn't afford to do.
