STRENGTHS
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Kind – Merry is kind to almost everyone unless they are cruel to her or someone she cares for. She has been known to help the less fortunate when she can afford to and offer advice when she thinks it will be needed and heeded.
- Intelligent – Some people are born with the ability to absorb knowledge like a sponge. Merry is one such person. She has moments of intellectual brilliance when studying an issue but may not always see how it can be applied till much later.
- Singing – Merry is an excellent singer and can often be found humming or singing to herself as she shelves books or works on the catalog at the local library. She can pick out most tunes easily and can play the piano.
- Diplomatic – Some people are born diplomats. Merry is a prime example of this. She can talk to just about anyone without preconceived notions of how they should act or behave. She often is the person that people go to for information.
- Graceful – For all that she is frail Merry moves with an innate grace that comes with knowing how her body works and its capabilities. She studied etiquette for years and it has allowed her to move easily and with a confidence (that is outward appearance only) born of practice.
WEAKNESSES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Frail – Merry has asthma and can tire easily. When under tremendous stress or great activity she may have an asthma attack. She tends to keep an inhaler with her most times but if she misses her medication it can cause difficulties.
- PTSD – Merry suffers from PTSD due to her traumatic childhood and the unresolved psychological issues that still linger. While she is going to therapy, PTSD requires her to periodically take breaks to reassess and change her habits. The flashbacks are not under her direct control and can strike at any time if she is under stress.
- Arachnophobia – She has a deep fear of spiders due to being bitten as a child and getting sick from it. She will freeze and be unable to move in the presence of a spider of any type. Even the fake ones have her backing away in fear.
- Trusting – Some people trust easily, Merry is one such. She doesn’t think that people would want to hurt her and it doesn’t occur to her that they may be out to hurt or deceive her. Her own good nature means that sometimes she walks around in a rose colored haze.
- Insecure – There are people that see themselves differently even if they have talents or are beautiful. Often their inside perceptions and the outside reality are different. Merry does not see herself the way others do. To her she is still the same gawky teen that she was. Her history has damaged her self esteem and it shows in her reactions.
LIKES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Reading – Merry is a librarian reading is part of her stock in trade. She is an avid reader and very happy to bury her nose in a book when she has the time.
- Practicing Magic –Merry loves to practice magic and may, when she develops enough, gain telekinesis though at this current time she does not have it. She is a diligent practitioner and very focused when time permits.
- Singing – Merry is so bright and happy it is hard to imagine her not singing in some capacity. Her voice is very soothing and expertly trained from years of vocal lessons. She loves music and can often be seen swaying to some tune.
- Composing Music – Merry likes to compose music in her spare time. She can often be found in a café writing a piece of music that popped into her head as she sips her drink or nibbles her lunch. Her book bag is often full of music.
- Polite people – Merry responds well to people who are respectful and polite. She is more likely to look up information on a private request if the person is respectful, polite and articulate. She will bend over backwards and give the shirt off her back if she thinks you respect her.
DISLIKES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- Rudeness – Merry dislikes rudeness. It is likely to make her shut down politely and conveniently forget about what you wanted. She doesn’t tolerate it from anyone no matter how big they are.
- Arrogance – She hates folks that talk down to her. She’s had to deal with those all her life and she despises rich arrogant people or just snobs. This also qualifies for self-righteous folks as well.
- Violence – Merry hates violence and will avoid it and those that bring it with them. She tries very hard to stay on folks good side and not cause drama and she expects the same in return. Her abuse in her past causes her to shy away from even a raised voice.
- Possessiveness – We’re talking obsessive possessiveness here not the normal boyfriend girlfriend type. Anything that smacks of her being owned or property is going to make her very frightened very quickly.
- Know-it-alls – Being intelligent is fine. There is nothing wrong with that. Opening your mouth every five minutes to tell people how much you think you know is another thing entirely. In Merry’s experience those who speak the most usually don’t know what they are talking about nor do they stop talking long enough for another person to get a word in edgewise. Be warned, if she feels like you are just waving your credentials in her face, be they sheepskins, or whathave you. She’s likely to tell you to go away rather quickly.
- Spiders – She’s got severe arachnophobia and will scream, and freak out near spiders. She’s been bitten by one and is highly sensitive to their venom.
HISTORY
Merry grew up in Riverside California to Robert and Melissa Lovelace. Her mother was killed when she was very young but the circumstances behind her mothers death have remained a mystery. Her father refused to speak on it and opted instead to teach his daughter the ways of pacifism for her own safety while still showing her self defense if she ever needed it. Merry graduated from the University of Arizona with a double major in History and Gender Womens studies and went straight into her Masters program in Information Resources and Library Science.[/BLOCKQUOTE]
She came back to LA and began working at the local library as an under librarian who quickly found out what was in the deep stacks and special collections in the recesses of the library. In her off time she sings music and practices piano but those are for relaxation purposes. She has had very bad luck with men due to her shy and retiring nature and while she has no truly horrible experiences she is so quiet that its rare for her to date.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
I would like Merry to slowly grow into a confident person and make friends. I would like her to become an information resource to the Evans brothers if there is an opening for such and be a bit of a diplomat between good and evil because she knows where the books of magic are stored. My rp sample is a bit lax in this information because I didn’t want to step on toes but I’ll be happy to blend into the story as much as I can. I would like Merry’s mother’s death to be a plot device if allowed.[/BLOCKQUOTE]

Merry dusted the shelves carefully and hummed as she worked. The tune was from some musical she had heard recently and she was hoping she’d have a chance to see it soon. The reviews were excellent and she found she could sing the female part with ease. That was of course only in her room. Who ever heard of a singing librarian? People expected her to know about books and other such things and to answer the information line with what sort of toy was popular in the 70’s or where you could find tax forms in LA county.
She loved her job it was mentally challenging and there was always something interesting to be working on and now that she wasn’t spending every waking moment studying she found it gave her time to work on her ritual magic a bit more. The world could be a dangerous place but thus far she had been lucky to not run into anything to unsettling. She brushed her chestnut curls over her shoulder and turned to put a book away while patrons studied or played on the computers. The security guard nodded to her in passing and she smiled and waved.
Walking back to behind the desk she picked up a few questions from the Ask a Librarian stack and ruffled through them gently. Her well-manicured nails quickly finding the ones that were waiting to be answered while she put the others in the completed or call back piles. Looking up the information on the computer she paused when a patron asked where the book drop was located on the bottom floor. She whispered the location gently to him and then noticed when the guard walked over to check the computer lab to make sure there were no problems.
She went back to humming quietly to herself and managed to answer the question before she went on break and quietly informed the librarian that was taking over where she was in the stack of questions. She went into the back room and picked up her purse before heading into the break room for a much needed cup of tea and a chance to read one of the books she had checked out on music.
