- High Intelligence – She is smart enough to keep secrets to herself and know when to bring something up. She’s got a bit of the diplomat in her but is cheeky enough to give someone a run for their money be they a PhD or Vampiric Elder if they question her about her knowledge. She’s got a Degree in Religion and Another in Music on top of her Masters Degree.
- Sense of humor – She is the first one to make fun of herself and diffuse those who would do it. It doesn’t always work of course but it’s a good ice breaker isn’t it?
- Kindness – Being disabled she has an understanding of outsiders and those who are different. She tries to treat everyone how she would like to be treated. She never thinks about how this will be reciprocated she just does it.
- Animal Whisperer – Animals love her. Dogs, cats, ferrets. If it’s a pet it wants to curl up with her. This is in part due to her family raising exotic animals but it does help her get through day to day interactions well.
- Dominant – She’s not a mealy mouthed girl. She is in charge and knows it. She can be very nice and sweet but when she needs to take charge she does. This is because someone had to be the adult in the house when she was growing up.
- Common sense – This is a much needed trait when dealing with the supernatural and it applies to other things as well. She isn’t generally going to cause problems by acting stupid.
- Cool Under Fire – You can’t make her lose her cool. She’s seen a lot in her years and its rare for her to be rattled by much of anything. Blood, guts and crazieness? Bring it. She’s calm under pressure.

- Sensing – She can sense what folks are when she is close enough to them.

- Cerebral Palsy and Cataracts – She’s disabled. She can walk but she wears braces on her legs. She isn’t gonna run marathons or kick you in the face. She can’t drive and has to take public transportation everywhere and this can make her late from time to time which frustrates her. She’s visually impaired and periodically has to go into the doctors for surgery.
- Afraid - Mari is afraid of most things she just hides it well. That being said a person can push past the bluster and easily terrify her.
- Low Self Esteem – Because of secrets in her childhood Mari has a terrible self esteem. She goes to therapy for it but its slow going because she is so shy and reluctant to speak on what bothers her.
- Temper – She has a bad temper when push comes to shove. She will get in your face and confront you when she probably should back down and do something else. This has gotten her her ass kicked many a time and is not likely to change.
- Asthma – She has asthma and it kicks her hard during the allergy season. She carries an inhaler with her but sometimes it doesn’t help.
- Martyr complex - She will put herself in the front line of danger if it means saving another, because her powers are limited in their scope this could get her killed.
- Fear of Fire - Because her brother has threatened her with it repeatedly she now fears fire.
- Claustrophobic - Due to being raped Mari has a fear of enclosed spaces that makes it hard for her to ride in elevators or cars.
- Nightmares - She has crippling nightmares that often exhaust her and make it hard for her to get true rest.
- Lonely - Being what she is often means that Mari is isolated at times from her friends and loved ones. She can often be in a room of people and feel completely alone.
- Depression - Mari is currently suffering from Clinical Depression and this makes her withdrawn from others and closed off at times.
Power Weaknesses
- Can’t shut it off – Its permanently stuck in the on position and can’t be shut off. This makes interactions difficult especially of a romantic nature.
- Easily overwhelmed – She can be easily overwhelmed by her powers. This makes her want to retreat from large gatherings and such and cuts her off from others.
- The dead don't leave. - The dead talk to her all the time. As a result it can be hard for her to not be overwhelmed when they decide to run on and on and on.
- Being used - Her father uses her abilities to feather his pockets and control people. She tries to avoid him but he has been known to show up and cause problems.
- Can be emotionally damaged by what she heals as she sees a person's inner pain.
- Can't control peoples reactions to her pheromones. Some people don't react well.
- Healing people can drain her life-force if done too much.
- Immortality - She will probably outlive her friends. Having to bury friends and loved ones is never easy.

- Rudeness – She hates rude people they piss her off and she is likely to ignore you if you are rude to her.
- Arrogance – If Your’e a douche she won’t talk to you. She’ll move on to other things and ignore you rather than fight.
- Confrontations – She has a dislike of confrontations as a general rule. She can’t fight so she doesn’t like it at all.
- Eggs, wheat, yeast, soy, ragweed. She has allergies and they are severe. She has to watch what she eats and what she is exposed to. She’d live in a bubble if she could but she heard they aren’t good for meeting other people.
- Lying – She hates it and will probably break of a friendship if you lie to her unless it was important like you’re a vampire or a witch. Those kinds of lies she understands deep down.

Life in California isn’t all its cracked up to be when you’re psychic. It sucks double when your folks are screaming at each other for their flaws and you see all their laundry aired out for your mind. It makes you want to just join a convent and give up on the human race. At least that was how Mari viewed her family from a young age. Dad was a staunch Brit with a drinking problem and Mom was a flighty French Irish hippy with a tendency to push her into growing up way too fast for comfort. Mari handled it all like a boss (or so she thought).
It wasn’t until she got out into the real world she knew there was worse things than the thoughts crawling around her philandering father’s head. There were supernaturals out there with a myriad of hungers and wants. Not all that unnatural in the grand scheme of things but definitely not something you can explain to your next door neighbor. Especially when all you can do about it is suggest they not hang out with Mr. Peterson around the full moon cause he’s seeing you as dinner later tonight.
Nope, keeping your head low was definitely safer. Besides she already knew she stood out enough by the looks she got. The way she handed folks books based on their emotions that washed over her. She managed to hide herself in the stacks and make it as a Reference librarian in the LA University because no one asked many questions on why she could get things done so quickly. They didn’t know the stuff they had locked in the vaults and her Archival training helped maintain the secret nature of the objects found there as well as anything she happened to see that was out of the ordinary.
Mari grew up in Riverside California. While she didn’t get too much hassle growing up with Cerebral Palsy she got just enough to have trust issues with really pretty people out there but that was because to her pretty people usually held darker secrets. Those that shined behind the eyes and sparkled when you least expected it at night. That was how she learned about the supernaturals. Her second boyfriend was a wherewolf. Mellow for the most part she just thought he joked about being hairy until she saw him wolfed out and hunting deer in Suffolk County, Virginia when she was visiting a friend. That kind of lead to the end of the relationship. He liked the moon more than her and followed it as his first love. She left and he never even noticed. California called her name and Philip didn’t seem to care. She was home again and this time she had a better understanding about life at least as far as she knew it to be.
She graduated Suma Cum Laude from UC Riverside and went to the U of A for her library degree. While she does know Merry they don’t interact much due to Mari not being able to drive. Mari had a difficult time in college because she found she could pick up on the emotions of others really easily and when you have a bunch of hormonal twenty-somethings combined with alcohol it kind of turned her off of large parties. The feedback was like turning a radio dial to in between stations where you hear whispers but no real words.
She does like to sing and can often be found singing in the stacks where she works. Music is her peace and she happily engages in it even when others aren’t around. She tends to treat people how they treat her regardless of supernatural nature or not. Supernaturals are just folks with a few more cards in the deck of life after all…
In season two Mari grew into what appeared to be a very opinionated and strong woman. She stood up for what she believed in and made many different connections by making herself go out and be social even when she was inwardly scared. It was during this time that she met and started dating Trenton Moore at her father's insistence. The two grew close and Mari began to think this was her way to be free of her fathers tyrannical behavior, until Trenton was called away.
She soon found herself on the recieving end of abuse and a football player for the university named Rodney Brentel stepped in and tried to help her. She soon fell hard for Rodney and in spite of her warnings he kept trying to intercede with her father and get her out of the abusive situation. Eventually Trenton came back and Mari was torn between the two because of thier kindness to her.
Her father however, had other plans and even though Mari had moved out of her home he kidnapped, tortured and assaulted her. Injured she called Rodney for help and while she was recovering he, Trent and her stepmother Diana took care of her father. Rodney was exposed to the supernatural for the first time and he and Marina decided he needed time to cope as did she.
As if fate did not think that was enough Mari was tasked by the Arch angel Michael to stop her brother Samael from becoming a demon. To their knowledge they have succeeded but now Mari must face her true origins and those of her friend Logan at a time when her life is in chaos. She does not know what this means for her future or her relationships and only time will tell what comes of the revelations that have been revealed to her.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
Mari is the University Librarian so maybe she could help with the information end for brothers. She’s quirky and blunt and could probably keep them in line just by pointing out the flaws in their logic. Being as she’s not very combat oriented maybe she could just be called in for her physic ability from time to time like a guest spot. In the mean time she hob nobs with the characters on a casual basis.[/BLOCKQUOTE]

20 Years | Merry and Robert
Mari glanced around as she sat quietly in the library at school. Being the Academic Librarian for the college meant that she was always having to deal with the bueracracy of the University when she would rather be helping the students. There had been a lot o odd incidents here of late, some girls were coming into the library and babbling about magic and the impending situation. What that situation was she didn’t know but she was going to keep a weather eye out for problems and keep her late nights here to a minimum. She sighed and looked at the clock. If she was going to get home before dark she needed to get out the door to meet her paratransit van now rather than later. She rose ackwardly and picked up her ipod. Bruno Mars was singing Grenade at the top of his lungs and she couldn’t help but think Preach it man.’ She moved the song onto the next track and she got “Moves like Jagger.” Much better. She began grooving out the door to her spot that she needed to wait for the bus and didn’t even care about the snickers she got from the jocks. Muscles were temporary; brains were forever.
