She sat with her legs crossed and tried to remember all that had been imparted on her by her God Father Robert Lovelace. He had known about Cupids because his family had had more than a few. She felt odd that she had to ask him for help but with him being the "clean up" specialist for the vampire community there were few telepaths and coersers who could do what he did. He had the ability to heal the mind with his coercion. She had benefited from it herself and it was because of his skill that he had offered his own heart ache up as a test subject for her to work with.
He had let her start the beginning of mental healing for him but had stopped before it grew too tiring for her. He'd mentioned that it was why she'd been feeling so exhausted lately. She'd been healing and not realizing it. Leaning back on a couch she felt her body relax. The pain meds and orange juice had helped her tremendously. Now as she laid back and lightly dozed she wondered what would happen to her.
She was supposed to marry Trent but was that even an option with her father losing custody of her as it were? Trent hadn't signed anything as far as she knew and she didn't want to do too much digging to find out. She wanted to trust him but it was hard given the gossip. The fact that he was now co-ruler of the vampires of the city made it imperative he look impressive. She didn't think he could do that with her presence. There was also the fact that Trent could go from saying he loved her to bragging about having killed her enemies in the blink of an eye. It frighten her. She didn't know if he would hurt those she cared about in the long term. She had no confidence in what or who she was. Robert had tried to help but it was the fact that until recently her father had squashed the ego out of her.
Rodney was part of her tangle as well. He seemed to like her but did she have the right to tell him about the supernatural? She would have to if they dated. It made her head hurt to think about it so she thought about Darryl's comment that she needed to be locked down. She hated the thought because it implied she didn't know anything. As if she wasn't already cooped up. She was going to end up locked up here just like her dad's. It didn't matter.
Thinking on her father she popped her back and thumbed through her latest texts. The shareholders had held a meeting and unanimously voted him out. She didn't know what triggered their mini rebellion but she thought it had to do with the business fraud charges that were coming down the pipe for him.
She groaned and saw that one of the senior partners wanted to speak to her. Dialing the number she let the phone ring and heard him pick up almost immediately, "Mari, how nice to hear from you. I wanted you to know that since we needed a new Captain to run the ship we voted you in. Please tell me you can quit that crap library job and come to work for us. Your father is leaving the office now. I think if you give it a day or so you'll find out all you need to know."
"I know nothing about shipping or business my degrees don't fall in those perviews, Jim." she said quietly in clipped tones. "My father made that company and you sold him out." Her rage made her shake as she tried to calm herself. Demons were dirty backstabbing assholes.
"Well of course I did sweetcheeks. I am a demon after all. Just consider my offer babydoll. You wouldn't have to do anything unless you want to give ol' uncle Jimmy a lapdance..." She heard the squeak as his chair swiveled to look at the expansive view from his office.
"It will be a cold day in hell before I do that, you bastard. I am not coming to that board meeting and that is final!" she ran her hands through her curls and felt her asthma kicking in.
"Oh such language. And from a girl that was banging dear old daddy. I'm shocked I tell you--" she cut the phone off and blocked his number. The phone still went off with another business contact so she shut the darn thing off. So much for feeling sorry for herself. This just angered her beyond recognition. She had to go find out when this Samael person was going to attack her father and it sucked that she had no information.
