DANIEL LACHLAN COOPER
Daniel Cooper | Twenty Four | Straight | Good | L.A.PD | Riley Smith[/color][/font][/CENTER]
STRENGTHS
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- COMBAT TRAINING- As an officer of the police force, Daniel was trained in physical combat, therefore knowing how to disarm a foe, take a foe down and escape from a tricky situation. He is able to use his strength to take out his foes with ease. For a human, he packs one hell of a right hand.
- JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE- As a police officer, he has had the experience of attending many court cases over the years. He has picked up the structure of court cases, the legal terms and implications, which can be very useful for him as he is able to understand and interpret his findings from a session.
- PHYSICALLY FIT- Going through the academy and being naturally fit allows him to endure a lot of physicality, whether in a fight or simply running after a fleeing criminal. His body is moulded to be able to be resilient.
ARMED WEAPONS- Daniel was trained to know how to handle a- gun and how to use it, when necessary. He knows how to fire a gun in different circumstances, such as running, at a distance, on the ground, etc. He was one hefty aim, and rarely misses his targets. Of course, he doesn't usually shoot anyone, usually resorting to less-violent methods.
- POLICE KNOWLEDGE- Being in the force for six years, he has a fairly adequate grasp of what the police force entails, and all the 'nitty gritties' involved. He knows how to go about things in the department, who and who not to trust, etc.
- USE OF RESOURCES- As he is a police officer, and higher than just an average officer, he has many resources at his disposal. For instance, ability to call in back-up, or authorization to access police records, police checks, and other police and crime documents. He is also able to call for forensic reports or information on possible suspects from the database.
- OBSERVANT- Daniel observes even the littlest of things, which may be ignored or not comprehended by another's mind. He has learned from crime scenes and reading police reports to take notice of the littlelest of things, as they can sometimes be the driving factor in uncovering answers or solving cases. He is also adequately skilled in judging the behavior of someone, where he would be able to assess and determine the type of person who would have committed the crime, simply from evidence gathered.
- RESOURCEFUL- Being trained as a police officer has granted him the learned ability of using one's resources to his own advantage, especially in dangerous circumstances. For example, if a hostile had a gun pointed at him, he would be able to find a possible way out of the situation, by either talking the person down, or somehow managing to disarm the man. He knows that the most simplest thing in the environment can turn a situation around.
- RESPECTED- In the department, he is one of the more respected police officers because of his work-ethics, and seriousness of getting the job done, showing his determination and committment to the force.
- DETERMINATION- When Daniel sets his mind on something that interests him, there is little that can stop him from doing everything it takes. His determination for being a good cop and saving people has led him to be just that. A great cop. If he is determined to find the answers to a crime scene, he will push every resource he has into doing so.
WEAKNESSES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- HIS DETERMINATION- As he will set his mind strongly on something he is invested or interested in, he will put himself into any situation necessary in order to find the answers, which in many cases, could become rather dangerous.
- HOSTILE- Daniel has a habit of becoming rather aggressive when he is provoked, or believes someone is out to get him. When he becomes defensive, he isn't too fond of reasoning with that particular person. If someone does something he doesn't like, then they are against him.
- GUILT- Although doing his job, he still lives with the guilt today of shooting a criminal. Many in the force continued to tell him that there was no other option, but Daniel isn't the type of person to settle for that. He always believes there should've been or could've been another way to handle the situation without causing violence. He questions himself everyday about his morals and whether justice was being served by killing the dangerous killer himself, rather than lock him up.
- BOTTLES THINGS UP- He sees that it is rather weak for a man to be entirely open about their feelings, and prefers to keep them to himself. He sees himself as strong, and able to endure whatever thoughts burden his mind. After all, they are his burdens, not anyone else's. He will rarely become emotional, unless displaying aggression or anger.
- POLICE OFFICER- Being a police officer, like many others, has inadvertedly made him adopt a nature where they see everything they do as right, and cannot comprehend that someone else is doing something right, also.
- HEAVY DRINKER- When he killed the criminal, he began drinking a lot more than the casual drink with the boys after a long day at work. He honestly believed that drinking would solve all of his problems, and even today goes to bars by himself and just drinks more than usual to ease his mind and ignore the problems he faces.
- IGNORANT- Daniel doesn't like being faced with a situation out of his league, or something he isn't sure how to handle. He doesn't like situations where "surprises" of the sort happen. He won't usually accept a new view, as he has his mind set already on the way things are, and doesn't like when that is challenged. He cannot usually handle things which are new to him and that he can't control or understand entirely.
- HIS OLDER BROTHER- He idolizes his brother in every way possible, however he doesn't get the same treatment from his brother. He wanted to be the good cop his brother was, and still is, but just feels like everything he does still isn't enough to please him, or earn his respect. He would do anything to earn the respect of his brother.
- DISTANCED FROM HIS DAUGHTER- He isn't allowed to see his eight year-old daughter, and hasn't seen her for many years, because of the mother's wishes. Although he appears to be coping with it, the long nights out drinking at pubs prove otherwise. He wants to be a good father, but can't if he can't even see her, nor would she even know who her real father is.
- PEOPLE SKILLS- Although Daniel is outgoing and will say what he pleases, he isn't the best at communicating in the most effective way with people and doesn't always take their feelings into account or emphasize with them when he says or does things.
LIKES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- HIS JOB- He tends to take his job seriously, as he does have a passion for enforcing justice within the city of Miami and protecting people from the 'evil' of society.
- BEING LIKED- Although he doesn't admit it, he wants to be liked by others and not just respected out of fear because of his high posistion or because his brother was a great cop. He wants to be liked for who he is. This also applies to a relationship, as he does want to have someone who loves him and he is able to open up to.
- DRINKING- He can't resist a couple of drinks after work, and a couple more after that. It helps him relax after a stressful day on the job, and also helps him ignore the harsh realities before him.
- SEX- What guy wouldn't enjoy sex? He is usually one to go out to a bar and go home with a woman, just for some enjoyment, nothing serious. He isn't the best at maintaining a relationship.
- WORKING OUT- He enjoys keeping himself in top shape, as it challengers his body, and at the same time keeps his mind off of things he doesn't wish to dwell on. He knows that to be a good cop, he needs to be strong physically, and mentally also.
- VIDEOGAMES- He does enjoy playing videogames every so often, as they are a good relaxant, and are somewhat fun. Its just the teenage boy coming out in him still.
- BEING NEEDED- He likes it when people come to him out of need for help or assistance. He likes feeling like he plays a strong part in something, and someone requires his expertise.
- BELIEVING- He likes feeling like there is something good out there looking out for people, even him. He likes to have hope that everything will work out in the end.
DISLIKES
[/BLOCKQUOTE]
- IMMATURE PEOPLE- As he is a serious personality, he finds it insulting when people are disrespectful, offensive or "playing around" as they call it with other people, or him. Immaturity usually leads to them falling into the wrong crowd, leading to offences occuring.
- REJECTION- He hates going out of his way for something or someone, only to be thrown back or rejected. It makes him feel slightly worthless and inadequate at times and will usually lead to him feeling embarrassed or will totally shut down to the reciever altogether..
- UNANSWERABLE CASES- He hates nothing more than not being able to find the answers to a case they are working on, or not being able to bring a criminal to justice for the crime they committed. He likes always knowing there is an answer to a case, and that they will find it. When they don't, he feels like he didn't do enough.
- INJUSTICE BEING SERVED- He likes to pride himself on the fact that he is doing his job well and people are brought to justice for the crimes they commit. When this doesn't occur, he hates himself for not being able to do so. He also hates seeing criminals escape with minor criminal sanctions for barbaric crimes. He definantly cannot stand when there is no justice being served whatsoever.
- NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE HIS DAUGHTER- She means the world for him, and after not being able to see her for many years and watch her grow up and thrive, he simply misses her. He wishes every day he could go back in time and do something different that would enable him to be able to see her frequently. He wants to see her smile and laugh, as he missed all of those things. Just holding her would make him a happy man.
- BEING THREATENED- Daniel doesn't take threats or challenges lightly, and becomes very serious and determined in such instances. When he feels he is being threatened, his body language will change and he will become rather hostile and aggressive.
HISTORY
Daniel grew up as always being the odd one out in the family in the city of Miami. His parents were not rich by any means, however had enough finances to support both their children through their childhoods and schooling. Being the second born child, his parents were mainly focused on their first son, Blake Cooper. He was six years older than Daniel, meaning his parents were strongly behind him in getting a great education of the sorts and helping him through his schooling life. Daniel was just born, therefore too young to really have his parents too invested in him, other than him being so 'cute' as a baby and child. Of course they gave a lot of time to him as he required it, however it was obvious through the observation of others that they were intent on making a future for Blake. As he began to start school, his brother was on his way through secondary schooling. His brother was looking to have a keen future ahead, which had always been a reason he looked up to his brother. However although he did everything for his brother and would drop something in a second for him, he felt at times like he wasn't getting the same treatment back from his older brother Blake. His brother had his own friends and things to do, not wanting to really hang around his younger brother too much. Though he did look out for him.[/BLOCKQUOTE]
Daniel was fairly good through school, usually focusing on the humanities and artistic type subjects, while Blake would ace the sporty and mathematical subjects. Blake had decided to join the police force when he finished his schooling, and from that day on, Daniel felt like he wanted to be a cop as well, because he had observed the great work his brother did in the job, solving crimes and such, and he wanted to be apart of that and make a difference. His brother would take him into work frequently when his parents were unable to look after him, and he would learn the ropes, so to speak and begin understanding about the roles of police officers and such.
It was when he turned fifteen, that he became involved with a girl from his school. They became rather serious and got it on one night, however an accident occured when the condom broke, and a few months later, it was revealed that he impregnated her. She was intent on keeping the child, not wanting to have an abortion or anything. Daniel wasn't keen on the idea, as he wasn't ready to support a child and didn't know how to handle the situation practically. The two began slipping away from eachother, especially after the child, his daughter Ella was born. It was becoming too much for the both of them, Daniel especially. The two would fight constantly about how to care for Ella, as they were both new to the entire experience. Her family was angered at Daniel for impregnating their daughter, not wanting him to be apart of her life, and 'banished him' so to speak, not allowing him to see his daughter. He had spoken to his brother about the whole situation, where in many ways he looked down on his brother for doing such a foolish thing. It appeared nothing he did was good enough for Blake. He had agreed to help him get custody, but was unsuccessful due to the baby being in possession with the mother. He was allowed however to see the baby on certain times, usually weekends when the family wasn't around, however this soon died down continually until they moved interstate, and he had no further contact with her whatsoever.
His relationship with his brother continued to remain the same, however it did get stronger when their father died of a heart attack when he turned seventeen. His brother became the 'man' of the house, so to speak and helped their mother pay for bills and finances. He soon found someone and moved out of their family house and in with her, in many ways getting on with his own life, at the same time abandoning Daniel and their mother. He would keep in contact with their mother frequently, but wouldn't go out of his way to see Daniel unless their mother pressured him too. When Daniel turned eighteen he went into the police academy, showing that it ran in the family as he showed great persistence and skill. It wasn't long before he had been brought in as a cop, which was probably also due to the reputation of his brother Blake among comrades within the force.
Blake had also moved out of Miami and interstate, joining a larger branch of the force there, becoming a Sergent in one of the departments. Daniel had decided to keep reletively close, also able to visit and look after his mother whenever she needed it. However she was beginning to become old, and after a year of being in the force, she died of a kidney failure. This affected both brothers tremdously, however Blake hadn't decided to move back to Miami because the posisition he was in was too important, and he was confident Daniel was able to support himself alone. And that he did, as he rose in the ranks of being a cop, which was also when he sustained his first major injury in a dangerous situation where a hostile stabbed him with a skinny blade in the shoulder. He was rushed to hospital, but it was nothing vital and he was able to recover shortly after, taking time off of the force.
His promotion allowed him to wear plain clothes, and he began to dress more formally and professionally. He was more involved in cases, and had access to police records, documents etc, and more resources at his disposal. He had heard from many of the members of the force he went out to drinks with that his brother had visited their department a few times, conveniently when Daniel wasn't there. He had asked about how he was doing, but was never too concerned with it. This did upset Daniel, as he wanted a strong relationship with his brother, but just felt like nothing he did was ever good enough or enough to please his older brother. He began going out a lot more after a long day at work with the boys, and began getting into drinking, where he would drink a lot more than usual. However this didn't take away anything from his skill, as he was seen by many as a good cop and able to make his brother proud. However he just didnt' feel this reaction was evident from his brother.
It was lately that he had realized a lot more strange and unreasonable cases had been coming forth when he moved to Los Angeles, where victims would display strange marks and "bite like" marks on their necks. He didn't believe in vampires and all that crap, but couldnt' deny that it was strange, sick and 'barbaric.' He became more invested in going for these cases, where others usually cringed and sheered away from. He wanted to find out the mystery and solve these unanswerable cases, as something surreal was going on that no one seemed to be able to crack. The crime rate in LA was increasing, and this worried him.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
When he discovers the world of the supernatural, many things will change for him. He won't want to accept it, for starters and will begin to see Logan as a serious threat.[/BLOCKQUOTE]
I want to explore the relationship between Daniel and his older brother, eventually leading to his brother being murdered, leading to Daniel becoming mentally unstable and becoming a reckless cop. Things would go bad for him when he is kicked out of the force and shamed, leading to him not caring anymore. He'd eventually agree to help out some goody and join their group, seeing that there are "bigger" things at work here than just throwing criminals in prison, and that he can really make a change.
Another pressing matter would also be of his daughter. Perhaps Hart Enterprises eventually finds a way for him to be involved with her or something, as long as they get something they want?
He could also know Lily and provide her with police reports/cases for her investigations?

"This evidence just doesn't match up. According to the witness reports, we are searching for a criminal who doesn't even exist." Daniel sighed, throwing the papers onto the table in front of him, and slouching back in his chair, placing his hand over his forehead. He stared into complete blankness for a few continual moments, before glancing back at the officer. "What else have we got? Tell me we've at least got one decent lead. Anything?" The officer didn't even have to speak for Daniel to know the answer. Just by staring at the man, he could tell they had nothing. Nothing. How were they supposed to find a criminal who was that good at keeping themselves undetected by the law?
Breathing in slightly, Daniel looked back down at the witness reports, before opening the papers curiously, stopping at a page, which had the witness 'Damian Smith.' "Him," Daniel stated sporadically, whilst glancing back up at the officer. "For a guy who would've been too busy purchasing the newspaper he mentioned, he sure did provide us with a lot of information. Too much, I'd say. I think we should go ask him a few more questions. Just make sure that the information he provided us really is the information we're looking for." It just made absolutely no sense whatsoever. How was someone who had slaughtered an entire family able to go about their day with no key witness reports, no previous convictions or even no reason to be at that place at that particular time? The victims were slaughtered with a basic kitchen knife, leading one to believe that it was someone who had access to the home. However all of its residents were dead, which brings the thought to that of a breakin. However no locks were broken, or no sign of force was evident. Whoever did this gained access to the house through either theft of the key, or an invitation. They had already checked all of the relations of the victims, and no one matched up, nor even had a reason to be there or committ the crime.
Sighing, Daniel got up from his seat and nodded at the officer, before grabbing his wallet off of his desk, and following the officer out of the door, and out of the building. After getting in the car, he paused, watching as the other man began to start the car. "Lets visit the crime scene again. I just think theres something we're missing, and I'm keen to find out what it is. However did this cannot just disappear off the face of the earth. There's gotta be some vital evident that we missed that is the key to solving the case, and finding the killer." He wasn't looking foward to seeing the bloody, lifeless carcuses again. Just the thought of it made him insanely angry, but he knew that would just lead to something stupid. And he had been there before.
Turning up at the scene of the crime, he stared down the bodies intensely, looking for the slightest of clues. His partner was standing back, obviously not used to seeing this kind of carnage. "Its hard to look at, isn't it?" He didnt' turn to glance at the man, just continuing to focus on the bodies, as he paced slightly around to get a closer look at the mother. Then he stared at the two kids; a daughter, and a son. It was hard to bear. He had thought of how he would cope if this was his daughter and her mother lying here on the floor. It could be, this was just as random of a slaughter as anything. "I want the forensic reports on the victim's blood. It looks like there was some force present, and I'd like to know if all of the blood actually belonged to the victims, or if there was someone else's present." His job was hard, there was no doubt about that. But it was moments like these where he knew that bringing forth justice would at least provide some retribution from the family.
