Rodney tapped his pencil against the open biology book in front of him his eyes skimming the text reading the last few sentences on the page. As he turned the page with his free hand, he glanced up at the football shaped alarm clock on his night stand. 9:53 p.m. What the hell! Had it really been two hours since he’d last looked at that clock? Rodney rolled his eyes and slammed the book shut kicking his feet against the carpeted room making the two front legs of his chair come up off the floor. Homework really wasn’t how he wanted to spend his Thursday night. He didn’t have class tomorrow, and he didn’t even have to go coach until 3. So, why was he sitting here in dorm room doing homework? Probably because Axel wasn’t there to get him off of his ass to go do something. Rodney wasn’t a lazy person by any means, but if his friends didn’t ask him to go do things, he’d either be out walking around, working out, or doing homework. Tonight, he didn’t feel like doing any of those. Where was Axel’s persuasive ass when he needed him?
So far, Axel was the only person that Rodney seemed to connect with, which was strange because they were so different. Axel was a very social individual, Rodney wasn’t. Axel didn’t seem to be afraid of anything, Rodney had quite a few things that scared him. Axel always knew what to say in front of people, most of Rodney’s words came out awkward when he was around to many people. Axel would do just about anything even if it was dangerous, Rodney, not one adventurous bone in his body. Maybe that barrier just hadn’t hit them yet. As roommates, they pretty much worked. Maybe it was because Axel was such a down to earth person. Someone Rodney had a very easy time getting along with. They tended to do quite a lot together though. Axel was his work out buddy, and they always played sports together. Hell, Axel would even go for walks with him although most of those walks were during the day. If it was at night, that would just be a bit weird for both of them.
But even though Rodney was quite happy with the roommate he was given, there was just something Rodney couldn’t put his finger on when it came to Axel. Rodney would always catch him sneaking out at night. And honestly, it wasn’t any of Rodney’s business, but Axel talked to him about things. If it was a girl, Rodney would know about it. And Rodney doubted it was a girl anyways, because Axel + relationship/romance=apocalypse. And that wasn’t the only thing. Axel had always been quite the sketch artist. Several times, Rodney had seen Axel’s work. Either Axel had the craziest imagination ever, or he just had a good eye for mythical detail because some of the creatures that he would draw were out of this world. Not to mention the numerous bruises Axel would randomly wake up with the next morning that would be gone in a matter of just a couple days instead of weeks. There was definitely something going on here. Rodney just couldn’t figure it out.

He walked in the door of his dorm, looking around slowly to see Rodney down and apparently studying. He smiled softly, it was like a sight he was almost used to coming home to. He wasn't much of a studier, but it appeared like Rodney was really into it, or at least was trying to be. He walked over to the boy, looking at what he was reading. Biology, a subject he had done in high school, but was glad to be rid of. But Rodney was the one who had to do the subject, so he could sit back and laugh at all the workload and complicated problems associated with it. But Rodney was smart, so he was sure acing this subject was nothing to him.
He smirked softly, "How did I know I'd find you making out with your biology book again?" He asked playfully as he sat down near the boy, putting his bags beside his bed first. Rodney would probably hate him for annoying him while he was studying, but Axel was bored and needed some amusement. So much had been happening lately, that it was good to have a good friend like Rodney. The two hadn't been friends long, but sharing a dorm together just seemed to bond them in other ways, as if he was a brother to him or something, oddly enough. He didn't really know how to go about mixing in with his actual brothers, but with Rodney, it just came naturally and it was fun.
Rodney was the one who had kept him motivated, like going to the gym with him, going on walks and even training sessions. It was good, as although he always enjoyed keeping in shape, the sudden emergence of his new destiny made him realized that he needed to be in the most peak condition, both mentall and physically. It was always funny when Rodney took like a trainer role over him, as he was used to it for what he does on the side. He didn't imagine meshing so well with a roomate, especially this soon at university.
"I didn't see you last night or earlier, did you have a hot date, or something more or something?" He asked with a teasing grin plastered onto his face. The ironic thing was, Axel was the one who was doing more than something, but he was curious as to where Rodney got, even though it was probably none of his business. Though it was hard, Rodney was close with him and they did tell eachother everything, however how could he tell Rodney who he is and who he is seeing? Eli had found out because he became first-hand involved with it, which was completely different. He didn't tell Eli anything, Eli was there to experience it as much as Axel was. "I met someone last night, they were really nice. Well, we met before but it was more...You know, this time. I think things are really looking up." He stated, with a soft smile. The only real way to recieve honestly is to be honest in the first place right?

Rodney’s chair almost went back to far as Axel came into the room shutting the door behind him. Rodney quickly grabbed the desk so that he wouldn’t fall backwards. Pulling himself forward, the front legs of his desk chair hit the floor again. Rodney smirked at Axel’s comment. “Probably because you know I don’t have anyone else to make-out with.” That was completely true. Rodney hadn’t been out on a date in weeks. His friends told him that it was because he didn’t get out much which was also very true. He needed to be more social, but it was just challenging for him. He was never one to just walk up to someone including women. They would have to make the first move in meeting him which was not something that women liked….well most of them anyways. They liked a guy who could take control, and he totally could once he got to know the woman. But women didn’t see it that way. If he didn’t make that first move right off the bat, they wouldn’t consider him. But on top of his social awkwardness, Rodney was just too busy for girlfriends and dating. He never imaged that his first semester would be this difficult. He just wanted to jump right into the classes for his major instead of taking all these stupid general classes that he had no interest in like Biology.
”Hot date? Are you kidding me? I was at the local library doing research occasionally looking over at the hot librarian I was wishing to take out on a date.” It wouldn’t have taken him the four hours that he had actually spent in that library if he hadn’t been checking her out. He had actually gone up to talk to her and ended up asking her a lame ass question about search engines instead of what he really wanted to ask her. He was still kicking himself for not asking her out. “I don’t even know her name dude. I was too much of a chicken shit to get it.” He shook his head laughing at himself. And when Axel mentioned that he had met someone and things were looking up, Rodney wasn’t surprised. Axel always had a way with words. He was outgoing and completely open to meeting new people. Rodney wished that he was a bottom feeder sometimes when he was around Axel. He wished that he could just suck up some of those good qualities that Axel had. If he was outgoing, things would probably be so much easier for him. “Well, that’s great man. Who is this lucky person? Do I know ‘em?” Most likely Rodney had no clue who it was. Axel and Rodney had a few of the same friends, but most of the time, who they spent their time with varied greatly.

He chuckled at Rodney's comment as he rubbed a hand on the big man's shoulder. "Thats because you are more interested in biology, than meeting anyone. Just walk around the uni, go out, there would be heaps of girls who would wanna get with you. You just gotta get out about some time." He was trying, he really was trying to get Rodney involved with people and become 'out there.' He wanted the man to be happy, he deserved it, he just wasn't the best at making conversations with people he didn't know. Axel was completely fine with being his wingman; the problem was, trying to get Rodney's wings to fly in the first place. Rodney was awesome, but he could be difficult to persuade at times, as he seemed to be set in his ways, like most people are anyway. Rodney just needed to experiment, see what works for him, enjoy himself. Have an adventure! Wasn't always that bad.
He raised an eyebrow as Rodney spoke about the librarian. Of course he was speaking about a librarian, and a library. At least he was thinking about the librarian and not the actual books. "Okay...Hot librarians...Not bad, its a start. But wait, hot librarians? Is that even possible? Are we talking like Carmen Electra dressed as a librarian, or actual librarian-librarian?" Although he wasn't prejudicial by any means, he just hadn't encountered any hot librarians. Maybe he should go pay the library a visit one time, to suss out Rodney's crush. But that would involve going inside a library and seeking...Books. Lots of em, too. He smirked as Rodney admitted he was scared. "But I thought librarians had name tags, or are these L.A libraries just completely different to what I'm used to seeing?" It was good though, to hear Rodney express interest about someone. He must have really enjoyed the view, talking about it so vividly and all.
He smiled softly as Rodney spoke about Axel's newly found 'special someone.' He didn't really know why it came out, it would probably lead to questions like 'who is she' and stuff, and how would he react to that? He didn't exactly want to lie to his good friend, especially if things go well with Eli. He couldn't hide him forever, right? He bit his lip at Rodney's question. "Uh, nah probably not." Rodney could possibly know Eli or have seen him around, considering his in a band and all. But as Axel knew well, Rodney didn't get out all that much, so the possibility isn't as likely. ”Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Rodney said with a half-smile. It wasn’t as easy as Axel made it seem. Sometimes he didn’t think Axel really understood how difficult it was for him. But that was to be expected. Who could? Rodney was socially inept, and Axel was definitely not. But Axel was right. Lately, it seemed that Rodney was feeling sorry for himself instead of getting out there and at least trying to meet new people. He sighed. “Heaps, huh?” He laughed. “That’s something I’d like to see.”
Rodney was happy when Axel asked about the librarian. That just meant that he could talk about her more. “Dude, she was rockin’! I couldn’t believe it either!” Rodney sat back and rubbed his chin thinking about his Carmen Electra comment. “Nah, I wouldn’t say Carmen Electra. I’d say like Emmy Rossum, hot. Like adorable and innocent sort of. Librarian-librarian. I mean, she definitely wasn’t wearing no plaid short skirt with matching sock knee highs if that’s what you’re asking.” He laughed. And when Axel mentioned name tag he smacked his forehead with his palm. “Are you fuckin’ kidding me dude! Of course she was wearing a nametag. She had to be, but I was too busy focusing on what I wanted to say that I totally missed it.” He shook head. “I guess I’m gonna have to go back there then and do some more research.” He smiled. Axel was right. Getting out was the best thing for him. He had to at least try. And so what if she didn’t want to hang out sometime. That was okay. Not every girl could be a part of those ‘heaps of girls’ that apparently would want to get with him.
”Uh uh, man. Don’t leave me hanging. I may not know the person, but you could still totally tell me about ‘em. Rodney was used to Axel talking to him about things. He’d actually become accustomed to it. He loved being able to sit down and help his friend out. After all, Axel was his friend. If he had to pick one friend, he’d probably consider Axel as his best friend.

Boy could this boy be stubborn at times, when not realizing how many girls would get in a line to be with him. "You would see that if you actually got out in the sun some more and went looking for some. Hit a club, go to a pizza shop...Sit in a bad romantic movie...Just something, sure you'll find someone." He was more than happy to be this man's wingman if they went out, he thought it would be fun as he hadn't done things like that since high school, it really did bring back memories of the easy days where they just had fun and laughs, and the worst they had to worry about was failing a biology test. Was university sort of like those days, even in Los Angeles?
He raised an eyebrow at Rodney's description of the woman. "Okay, not bad I suppose. Still think the Carmen Electra librarian would kick ass and take numbers! Yours, hopefully." He smirked softly, though couldn't force Rodney who he was to like, Rodney seemed to have a good idea of that for himself, he was just too shy to actually ask the girl for her number. "Maybe I could be your wingman at the library, or something?! That could be fun...In a 'pretending to be interested in books like you' kind of way." It was definantly an idea he had considered, but stepping foot in a library was almost like a vampire stepping foot in a cathedral. Okay, maybe not that extensive, but the resemblance was there. It wasn't like he was allergic to books or something and would burst into flames upon walking in the library or something.
When Rodney wanted to know about Eli, he stopped to think for a moment, trying to lesson himself not to mention 'he' at all in his description. "Well, we kind of met in strange circumstances, hard to explain. They're amazing; good looking, fit, funny, outgoing and just fun to be around. And thats about all your getting for now, at least until you ask Ms Emmy Rossum out on a date, yeah?" He nudged the boy softly with a laugh.

Rodney chuckled at Axel’s comment that was said after he discussed his new special mystery person. “Alright alright, I’ll ask her out. But I’m not kidding dude. You better spill once I do.” Rodney was kind of curious now. This was the first time he had heard anything about this mysterious person. Maybe she was the reason Axel kept leaving during the night when he thought Rodney was sleeping. That would explain a little of Axel’s weird behavior. But that still wouldn’t explain the drawings Axel came up with nor the bruises he came home with that disappeared within a matter of a few days. But that was a discussion for a different day.
This was the first time in like ever Rodney actually wanted to do something other than the norm. “So, any ideas man? I’m so bored right now. That biology is kicking my ass, and I need a break. And please, something that doesn’t involve walking or working out.” Rodney loved every minute he spent in the park, on the beach, in the woods, or wherever else he went for walks, and there was no doubt about him loving to work out and play sports, but tonight he just wasn’t feeling any of that. He wanted to do something different. “Oh, and no romantic movies, at least not tonight,” he laughed remembering what Axel had said moments before. That definitely wasn’t something different. Rodney was a fan of chick flicks.

Whether he would 'spill' his gossip once Rodney asked out the librarian was a question within itself. It was a difficult thing to front his buddy with, especially him being a guy and all. He was sure it would take Rodney out of the blue, as it had shocked the hell out of Axel. However it felt good, so he just went with it. He just had to trust his own instincts, right? If something felt right, what was the point in fighting against it? He hadn't found anyone he could enjoy the company of as much as Eli, which was a changing atmosphere. Hopefully Rodney would understand where he was coming from, as their friendship was extremely important. He didn't want something like this to come in between their friendship, he liked Rodney a lot. He was one of the only friends he could count on in this town.
He chuckled softly at Rodney's surprising need to 'do something.' "I think I can find something fun we can do without involving walking or working out. I've been invited to this uni party thing by...A friend of mine. Was meaning to ask you, could be fun, would be cool for you to come along." He smiled towards Rodney encouragingly, hoping his need to do something could still involve a uni party. He realized it wasn't really Rodney's scene, but it could still be fun, and who knows, Rodney might actually come to enjoy himself. It would be a good bonding experience for the two though. Apart from hanging at the dorm or working out, they hadn't really got 'out there' at all, it would be good to hang with Rodney in a more social and fun environment, involving drinking!
"And no romantic movies? Did I just hear right? Rodney Brentel doesn't wanna watch a romantic movie?! Dude! next your going to tell me you ordered us pizza and brought a bottle of vodka, or something? And if you did, thats entirely cool and awesome." He grinned softly as he got to his feet, tired of looking at the boy's biology book. "So...Are you in, for the party I mean? I think I've put up with enough of your romantic movies, time for us to get crazy!"

Axel didn’t say anything else about the mysterious person which meant he would have to ask the librarian out just to get the scoop. That was okay though. He really did want to see her again and actually talk to her. Although he didn’t know anything about her, she was a vision, and he loved the way she seemed to present herself. But how would he even go about doing that? He hadn’t actually asked anyone out in quite a while. Axel was right when he said girls did go for him. He had had outgoing women come up to him and attempt to flirt, but it always ended with the girl feeling awkward because he said something stupid and then her walking away. Who knew, maybe this librarian would be just as awkward as he was. Maybe he could talk Axel into going to the library to check her out ahead of time. Maybe he could give him some pointers before he made that big move.
When Axel mentioned the University party, Rodney smirked. Of course Axel would be invited to yet another party. Everyone seemed to want to hang with him, so being invited to things wasn’t out of the ordinary. And each time he was invited, he would always ask Rodney to come with him. And every time, it would be the same answer. Nah man, I have homework. Or not this time I’m kinda pooped. Rodney just didn’t like being in that social atmosphere. It made him extremely uncomfortable, and Axel knew that. But that was the best thing about his friend. He actually cared about trying to help Rodney out with his social problems. And today, Rodney was just bored enough to agree to go. “Put up with enough romantic movies? Don’t say that! We still haven’t seen The Vow!” He nudged Axel. “Okay, yeah yeah, I’ll go with ya. This better be fun though.”
