She nodded as she took a small bite of curry chicken and chewed it delicately, swallowing before she answered, "Its just how parents sometimes are." Well her father was weird even by weird standards. The whole reason she had been locked down was to protect her from the wild parties that were held at the mansion from time to time. Demons partied hard and it was a testament to how sturdy the house was that nothing broke down to the foundation. Some nights she'd even spent in the chapel when she felt the revelers get to close for her mental comfort.
"You're lucky she said as she paused in the conversation and ate in silence with a quiet grace. She could tell he was puzzling at something but what it was she had no idea. She figured he'd bring it up if he wanted her to know and in the meantime she would just relax with her food and enjoy a quiet lunch with a new potential friend. Sipping her tea she leaned back and relaxed a moment making sure to let the food settle as she relaxed. She was going to have to fight off the sleepiness that always accompanied a meal.
"Its one of my favorites." she said as she sipped her drink and nodded at his words, "I was expected to host some of my fathers parties. Not all thank goodness but enough. I got used to it." She did grin at his enthusiasm as it rolled off him. She wasn't a snob about table manners. As long as it got where it was supposed to and stayed there she was happy. "I imagine all of this is a lot to take in. Where are you from originally?" she asked as she regarded him from her thick lashes. She knew it was rude to stare so she made sure to look off to the side unless he spoke. She could tell that the back wall of the restaurant was in need of a makeover.

She was right, sometimes how parents were, they just liked getting into everyones business and be nosey, or well in his case, they always seemed to care too much when it came to him but he was just annoyed by it all and left. She did think he was lucky only for having dog allergies, which was true, it seemed she had a whole lot more than him but all he had was dog allergies, maybe it did break the ice a bit and he was joking about it, well kind of, if she took it that way, well after thinking of all of that he hoped she knew he was serious but yet joking, if that made sense, maybe he should just eat and stop thinking. He couldn’t help but notice that Marina knew he wasn’t completely focused on everything that was going on, so he might as well focus on his food, so that his obvious distraction would seem a little less obvious.
He took a piece of the delicious lamb and took a bite as he chewed and smiled kind fully to Marina as she told him how she was to host one of her father’s parties but most importantly she wanted to know where he was from, this gave Jordan some time to swallow what he had in his mouth before answering her. “Well, I was born and raised in New York, seriously miss that place” he said laughingly as he continued to talk about himself. “but my father is of Dutch descendant, he moved to New York when he was like three, my grandmother just wanted to get out of the Netherlands I guess” he said with a smile as he focused on his food again. He was cutting off a piece of lamb as he looked up at Marina with a smile, kind of really into the food right now. “This is really good” he said like a five year old who tasted ice-cream for the first time.
While cutting his lamb into pieces he might as well get to know Marina, maybe knowing more about her could maybe help with the images he saw earlier in his head. “What about you? Your family from around here?” He said as he continued cutting his lamb into tiny pieces so it would be much easier for him to eat it, as he occasionally glanced at Marina with a smile, wanting to hear a bit more of her story.

"See that is just so interesting to me. I mean I know its probably no big deal to you but I always like hearing about the history of other people." she said with appreciation in her voice as she paused in her eating to speak. She went back to cutting her food for a few moments before she chuckled, "Lamb has always been a favorite of mine." she confided with a wink. "I'd love to travel to New York sometime. It would be fun."
"I grew up here but my dad is from Europe. He's English and Scottish." she said after pausing to dab at her mouth a moment and sip her drink. "My mom was Irish and French. She died when I was seven." she said softly as she moved the food around her plate but didn't eat it. "I spent time in boarding school and went to college in Arizona for a while so I'm a bit rusty as to what is here but I'm back now." she smiled up at him and chuckled, "Anything else you want to know? You seem curious." she could sense he was trying to puzzle something out and it just would take some coaxing for her to figure out what was catching his attention. She tilted her head to the side as she paused and ate some more of her meal. Content to listen to him and see if he'd puzzled out what had him so distracted.

Seemingly Marina found his whole family history interesting, though this might just be because she only knew that, as much as he did, his grandmother wasn’t one to open up about their past and whenever he did as, she’d tell him her grandmother never told her anything, so it was just a pointless game at times “Well glad to hear that interested you, since it’s as much as I know as well” he said with a slight chuckle, he found it funny, the one thing he did know about his history she found interesting so it was pretty much lucky for him. “My grandmother not big on talking family history at times” as he lifted his shoulders indicating her really didn’t know why she refused to. Plus lamb was also her favorite, which means she had good taste, because it was slowly becoming his favorite as well. As he jabbed his fork into one of the meat he chopped up into pieces earlier and took a bite as Marina talked about her family history.
Seemingly their families weren’t really that far apart since her father was English and Scottish while her mother was Irish and French, seemingly she was really a child of Europe after all but her mother died when she was younger, which certainly wasn’t something pleasant. “Well, guess there is a whole lot of cultures running through your veins” he said with a smiled as she continued to talking about where she’s been and well how she got here eventually, which was everyones’ story, you always end up “here” but not sure what it is, maybe it’s time to pull out some words of inspiration of sorts. “Well, here will eventually be called one of your homes when you leave, isn’t that always the case?” he said with a kind smile, but then things turned for the worse, well not really but she did notice his distraction earlier and wanted to know what’s wrong.
How was he going to explain this to her when he wasn’t even sure what was going on? Well maybe he should give it a try, who knows she might get what he’s got to say. “Well, earlier when we came in and the paparazzi kind of attacked us, I caught you and well, I had these weird visions of a woman that, looked a whole lot like you but didn’t know what to make of it” he said, as he tried to look at her with a serious face, she was probably going to think he was crazy, she had to, who in their right man has weird visions about someone they just met? But she sang a song, maybe if he asked her about that she might know. “Well, she was singing this song, I never heard before but for some reason it made me feel amazingly good, what was it” Jordan then slowly started humming the melody of the song, hoping it might trigger something in Marina, something familiar, something that she might remember.

"We can always go online and see what the genealogy databases have to say." she offered, "I'm a librarian. If you really are interested we could go looking." she paused to take a bite out of her food and relaxed now that they were talking about him and not her. It was a safer topic.
"Your home is wherever you happen to be at the moment." she agreed as she finished the last of her food and concentrated on her tea. The waitress cleared her plate and she relaxed back. "I like looking forward. In the past, at least my past, there isn't a lot of happy times." she said with a gentle shrug of her shoulders.
"You saw something when you came into physical contact with me?" she said as she mulled over the possibility, "There are a lot of possibilities." she added as she looked at him and listened. When he hummed the song she sat up, "That's a song my mother used to sing with me when I was little. You picked up on a memory of mine." she said gently as she looked him over. "You sound like you've got a rare gift there." she nodded to him and then paused to listen to what he had to say while she thought back. "I think you were picking up on when she was singing "The Rainbow Connection" to me." she remarked absentmindedly to settle him somewhat. He seemed very curious and she didn't want him fretting.

Marina mentioned a whole lot of ways he could find out about his past, but did he want that? Was it really something he wanted? He always thought his grandmother was on the cookie side but he was pretty sure she was tight lipped because she was an old timer and it’s just what they do, but it wouldn’t hurt to do some digging up he guessed, no harm done in digging up your past he thought to himself. “Well I don’t see why not” he said with a welcoming smile, he certainly wasn’t going to say no, maybe grandma crazy was hiding something after all, who knows really she was a rather weird lady as Jordan took another bit of his deliciously tasting lamb.
In no time, they were done and the waitress cleared up a bit and Jordan told her about his visions, what he had seen and when he hummed the tune for her, she remembered it, it was a tune she used to sing to her when she was younger, this certainly caught Jordan off guard since, he never knew he had such a gift and it made him slightly nervous, was he freak or something now? Was the whole town going to come and hunt him down and call him a witch? All these crazy thoughts were going through his mind, he was worried, scared and just plain almost having a bit of an attack because all that could go wrong, it must have been a coincidence , nothing more than pure luck, it couldn’t happen again. “I think you might be mistaken, it must have been luck, I bet if I tried it wouldn’t happen again, I couldn’t be gifted, that seems, impossible, let’s uh, try this again?” he suggested.
He took his hands out and hoped Marina would place her hands in his and it would once and for all prove it was all pure luck, but once Marina placed her hands in his, he suddenly felt fear, he was scared, all he could see before him, was this man, talking to him, calling him beautiful and making suggestive remarks to him, all he felt was his body feeling weak, filled with emotions, like he wanted to get out, get away then the man spoke to him and said. “I’m sure there is something you can do to make daddy feel good” and a sudden jolt of fear and feeling to escape entered his body as he did exactly that. His eyes opened up, his face just as pale as you can imagine and he was just speechless and freaked. “I….I need to go, I need to get out, leave me alone!” Jordan yelled drawing attention to himself and Marina as he jolted off his seat and was heading to the door, getting out of the restaurant and running as far away as possible from whoever that man was, or whoever he could have been.

Smiling softly she nodded and saw how he contemplated the idea she offered, his eyes deep in thought for a few moments as she waited for him to see the usefulness in looking into his family history and learning what he could from his past. She didn't see the harm in knowing about your family. Good or bad it let you know that you were part of something bigger and possibly how to interact with a bigger world than before.
"Well the only way to know for sure is to give it a shot. I don't think its as bad as you think and if you are gifted its good to learn how to control it so it doesn't happen when you don't want it to." she said gently as she tried to calm him down. He had every right to be scared but he always would be if he didn't learn what he could or couldn't do. One thing she'd learned was no matter how hard it was sometimes you just had to stand up and face what scared you. Of course she went into overkill and it would bite her on the ass one day but until that day came she was going to keep standing up. It was what she did and who she was.
She tenatively put her hands in his, not knowing what he would pick up from her as she sat there. Then she saw the look in his eyes and she knew. Careful she broke contact with him, "JP wait please! You don't understand." she felt his rejection as a slap even as she realized it was her father he was afraid of "Let me explain." she said to his retreating back as she sighed and bowed her head to collect herself. Exhaling she tossed out a few bills for the check and rose knowing that she'd overpaid but realizing someone else deserved a good day if nothing else. She waved the extra money off as the waitress offered her the extra cash, "Keep it." she murmured and the other woman grimaced and nodded, "Sorry your dinner was a bust, Ma'am. He seemed like a nice man." she said softly. Mari nodded, "He was." she agreed as she slowly walked out and the crowd swarmed her. JP had a meeting he had to head to she told them as she slid back into her limo and dissappeared down the street.
