It was audition day at LA Fever. She didn't even know if she would get accepted by a band or not. The chances were slim if none and honestly given the sheer number of costumes, makeup and hair product in the room she was going to gag and die before she got on stage. Her music choice wasn't anything great. Hell it wasn't even rock but honestly if she had to hear one more off tune rendition of "Rolling in the Deep" she was gonna put in ear plugs. She had enough nerves to make up for the stress in the room.
She got up on the stage and the cleig lights hurt they were so bad. When they looked over at her, she smiled and announced "I'll be singing Boogie Wonderland." she blushed when they smirked at her. She looked like a dork. Blue jeans and black tennis shoes over her white braces and a lavander shirt rolled at the cuffs. Her hair curled around her face a bit. She pushed her glasses up on her nose and began.
Dance boogie wonderland dance boogie wonderland Midnight creeps so slowly into hearts, of men who need more than they get daylight deals a bad hand, to a women who has laid too many bets
She let the music take over and gave it all she could. She'd never be a dancer and knew it so she didn't even try that. She began to move in time with the music, but it just felt right so she let her instincts go. Her voice soaring
The mirror stares you in the face and says "baby, uh uh it don't work" you say your prayers though you don't care you dance and shake the hurt dance, boogie wonderland dance, dance boogie wonderland
By the third verse she just didn't care any more. Her hand grabbed the mike and she took it off its stand. Her body moving over the stage doing her best to own the stage and keep the attention on her. There was no chatter in the background at least as she looked over at her audience and added a slow blues rock to it. If it looked funny she just didn't care. She was having fun.
Sound fly through the night I chase my vinyl dreams to boogie wonderland I find romance when I start to dance in boogie wonderland I find romance when I start to dance in boogie wonderland
When there was space for the band rift she did her best to accent the band showing that it wasn't all about her. She glanced over the group and blinked a bit but didn't let it stop her. Nothing saying a supernatural couldn't be playing guitar after all.
All the love in the world can't be gone all the need to be loved can't be wrong All the records are playing and my heart keeps saying "boogie wonderland, wonderland" dance boogie wonderland dance boogie wonderland
The rhythm could be felt through the stage and she looked out. Folks seemed to be grooving and having a grand old time. Not that it meant a regular gig but hey it was a start somewhere. Her hips swayed lightly and she did a move she'd learned in belly dance class and the crowd seemed to like it.
All the love in the world can't be gone all the need to be loved can't be wrong All the records are playing and my heart keeps saying "boogie wonderland, wonderland" dance boogie wonderland dance boogie wonderland
The song ended and she smiled and waited bowing gracefully as she could and showing off the band with what flair she could before she placed the mike back on its stand quietly and waited.

Broken Hearted Bastard auditions! Eli had definitely seen some strange shit today. From rock to broadway, and from jazz to disco. Some obviously hadn't seen the Bastards in action. But Eli was trying to be optimistic. He was a singer himself. He went through the years or horrid lessons and had his experiences of laryngitis. It wasn't fun. But he could see potential even behind the crappy song choices and the off-topic genres, he could see a singer in the making. Unfortunately today, it obviously wasn't working. And no, it wasn't because he was thinking of food. But five cheese burgers would be fucking awesome at the moment. Being this weird vampire thing had its perks and downers. One, he could live everyday and people wouldn't know the truth, and but he has an undying appetite. Like, seriously! Thayer gets pissed when he has to come home and it looks like a bomb went off in the kitchen. Chomp Chomp Chomp! Freakiest vampy ever right? The only danger he posses is a possible famine in the junk food industry. But whatevs.
The next chick was coming up and he could tell the guys weren't in it anymore. He couldn't blame them, but since the back up singer went to prison for trying to chew her boyfriends head off last week, they needed someone else. They should be grateful LA Fever was letting them hold auditions here. Eli sat back on the seat, arms crossed as his feet sat on the desk along with heaps of audition sheets. She came out, just another girl and decided to sing. She was singing a disco song! And something from way out of this decade. Eli had nothing against classical, but this was getting rediculous. ''Dude, LA is going to shit''. Vince whispered to him and the other guys ranted on, but Eli's feet fell down to the ground. ''Shut it, bro''. He sat forwards, listening to this girl. The melody, the pitch. It was a fucking horrid song to Eli, but her voice was - beautiful. He was completely captivated in her voice, and the others mocked her. Were they deaf? She rocked! Eli didn't want her to be let go without a chance. So he stood up, didn't care what the others said and provided perfect harmony's to her lone voice.
''All the love in the world can't be gone all the need to be loved can't be wrong All the records are playing and my heart keeps saying "boogie wonderland, wonderland" dance boogie wonderland dance boogie wonderland''. He ended it with a long harmonic sustained note before finishing, breathing a bit heavily from singing and gob smacked. This bitch was awesome! The guys looked to him like he had lost it. Cut it up as vampire hearing, but there was something about her voice that was - amazing. Smiling at her, obviously impressed her remarked. ''Um - that was sick! Your in!''.

Mari could sense that the band was getting pissed and tense. She wasn't even sure what their style of music was. She just wanted to get out of the gilded cage her dad was trying to shove her in. He always had folks watching her and no doubt they were in the audience. Some of the contempt was palatable and she resisted the urge to flip the bird at the haters. They didn't like it it was their own fault not hers. Disco had its place in music history and the fact that some of those losers couldn't even spell the word Gibson irritated her. Judgmental pricks. She'd show them and not a jot of it showed on her face.
Then this sexy blonde guy started harmonizing with her and she didn't skip a beat. Finally someone with a soul. Well...sort of. He was a half vamp at least. His other half seemed to be human if she had to guess. She smiled and then he said she was in. "No shit? Thanks, dude. That's awesome." she could tell he was sincere and he wasn't fucking with her. He was thinking of cheeseburgers for heavens sake. "You the deciding vote or do I gotta go all fight club on the hate train over there?" she pointed to his buddies and resisted the urge to do a little happy dance in front of them.
The jerks weren't gonna get rid of her. She'd put up with more shit than half these guys. "I didn't play my own stuff cause I wasn't sure that these guys would know a Gibson from a Fender." she smirked and did a little side shuffle. Fuck em she was on cloud nine. And a totally hot guy thought she was the shit. Her day was rocking hard core. "Sorry, just having a really good day. Don't mean to be all Pollyanna and shit." she said with a flush as she stopped doing her disabled shuffle of dorkdom. She wasn't ever gonna get a date at this rate. But her dad was going to piss himself and that almost made her project enough glee to get his attention. She could sense his mind peeking in on her own and she contained herself, barely.
"Dad made me take voice lessons for years and years. Hell I'm still taking voice lessons. My name is Marina Sinclaire but you can call me Mari." she said with a bob of her head as she offered her hand to the vamp and shifted so she didn't lock her knees.

''No need Mari, you're in. But, I dunno. I am thinking that you need to be introduced to what the 'Broken Hearted Bastards' are all about. What about it guys? Hinder?''. Eli smirked as he took her hand and jumped on stage. He liked her. Her 'don't give a shit' attitude, her buzz, her vibe was jolting and if he was straight, he would not one night stand her but invite her out to dinner. She was bright and groovy, but this band wasn't about dancing and disco. It is about rocking out and playing from the heart and even though these guys could be primo jackasses, they had soul. So with that in mind, Eli was going to jump on stage and do an improvisional duet of Hinder's Better Then Me. They got into formation, and walking towards Mari he smiled at her. Just because he was gay didn't mean he couldn't be a heart throb, and loosening his already loose casual tie against his designer button up, he started.
''I think you can do much better than me After all the lies that I made you believe Guilt kicks in and I start to see The edge of the bed Where your nightgown used to be ''. He smiled as he as he finished the note and turned from her. Taking a few paces, he spun to face her. Eli wasn't affraid to go all show-choir sometimes. It was fun, and the audience loved it. Especially when he really gets into it. Music isn't about metal or playing as loud as you can; it's about feeling. Facing her, he continued.
''I told myself I won't miss you But I remember What it feels like beside you ''. Pushing out that loud and long note, he moved straight up to her, in her face as he yelled out the chorus. Yeah, he gets really into it. Like, really really into it. It's his mother's fault, she is the one that wanted to have him in the 80s.
''I really miss your hair in my face And the way your innocence tastes And I think you should know this You deserve much better than me''. Sustaining the low note, he walked back over to his side of the stage, pulling over a seat for him to sit on as she was meant to take over. He was really curious to see how she handled a song note based on dancing, and to see how far her lungs could go. The audition was round 1, but if she can keep up is a totally different story.
In three weeks they had the 'Battle Of The Bands'. When you here it, it just sounds like a bunch of bands playing as hard as they could for cash. It was much more then that. It was where bands could go to unleash their tallent, play from the heart and really get the audiences attention. He just hoped that Mari could be the super-fine secret ingredient for them to kick this shit to a whole new level. If not, they are sitting ducks. The real reason they wanted in was to finally get somewhere. Eli was the one that dreamt big, and being able to get a record label and actually do something with their lives, more then they ever thought was to do the best they could. ''Come on, can you do it''. He said in the interval before her verse. He looked at her with an interested smile to see what she had.

Mari smiled as Eli put on the sex appeal. He definately knew how to rock and sell a song. She could sense though he totally wasn't into her at all but it made her feel nice and that was the point. There was a bit of irony in his song choice. After all he was a vampire and it was a very tragic song and kind of reminded her of her life so when she felt him lose the song within her she ran with it. While looking through your old box of notes I found those pictures That you were looking for If there's one memory I don't want to lose That time at the mall You and me in the dressing room I told myself I won't miss you But I remembered What it feels like beside you I really miss your hair in my face And the way your innocence tastes And I think you should know this You deserve much better than me [/i] She let her empathy take over as she let her voice pick up where Eli left off it remnded her of her ex and all the pain they had gone through and she let that sorrow ring through as she carried it home. The hurt and the anguish of knowing that someone would always follow their instincts and could never be what you needed. The pain of knowing she was never good enough in her own mind. All of it came out into that one song. The bed I'm lying in is getting colder Wish I never would've said it's over And I can't pretend that I won't think about you when I'm older Cause we never really had our closure This can't be the end I really miss your hair in my face And the way your innocence tastes And I think you should know this You deserve much better than me I really miss your hair in my face And the way your innocence tastes And I think you should know this You deserve much better than me (And I think you should know this) (You deserve much better than me) [/i] Tears fell down her face and she thought of her fathers struggles with his anger. She pulled back on her empathy, careful not to let anyone get any images of her life. She held that note long and hot pouring her soul into it until the song ended. She brushed her hair out of her face and took a breath. She still had energy to continue if they wanted to. Music energized her and gave her a way to sing about how she felt. She looked over to see how they would react to her and how she sang the song. She didn't know what they would expect next so she kept the mike handy just to be on the safe side. She blinked her tears away and smiled. "Well, dude?" she asked as she cocked her hip and shot him a devil may care smirk.

Like he wanted, she went on. It was amazing that their voices were so aurally compatible. It was hard to measure up to 'the Eli' and he smiled at her as she went on. He let her have this verse, and could literally feel the emotion pouring off of her. Seriously, he could feel it! Vibes went through him, radiating from her. Maybe like himself, there was more to her then meets the eye. The song seemed to be a bit personal, but she nailed it. This chick demolished the song and when she got the prechorus, he joined in with some harmonies. ''What it feel's like beside you''. He rung with it as he sang the rest of the song with her, rising from the stool and walking towards her, sadness and sympathy resting in his eyes.
''I really miss you hair in my face And the way your innocence taste And I think you should know this You deserve much better then me''. Tears were falling down her face as she connected with the song perfectly. Eli released some loud malismatic scatters during the small interval, walking up to her and putting a hand on her shoulder as she got ready to pour the rest of her heart out. Maybe, just maybe, this girl had what it takes to help them win this thing. But the question rising in his mind was that if she was in the right state of mind to be able to engage in such a competition?
''The bed I'm lying in is getting colder Wish I never would've said it's over And I can't pretend that I won't think about you when I'm older Cause we never really had our closure This can't be the end I really miss your hair in my face And the way your innocence tastes And I think you should know this You deserve much better than me I really miss your hair in my face And the way your innocence tastes And I think you should know this You deserve much better than me .....''. He held the note with her for their finish, and once finished her lowered the microphone and looked at her, wipping a tear from her face. He might be a hard guy sometimes, and also a vamp, but he cared. He felt seriously bad for her, but she delivered that song so well, emotions were really flowing out of her. The guys were getting restless, and they had might as well pack up for the night. He looked to them quickly until Mari asked her small question.
''I think we will stop there for today, we should probably bounce before it opens''. The guys heard, and scattered to fix everything up before leaving. Eli didn't. He knelt by Mari on her stool and looked up at her. He didn't want tears, but it worked. Her voice was amazing, but her heart was extraordinary. He could hear it beating against her chest, and sighed. He wasn't too good in these situations unless it was in life or death situations or if he is talking to his boyfriend. But he just asked the obvious question as they were now kinda alone. ''Are you okay, Mari?''. He asked, letting out a breath as he looked at her.

She could feel Eli respond to her and she didn't miss a beat of that song she just kept on harmonizing with him. Her heart there for the world to see as she let everything out and bared it all emotionally. She accepted the sympathy for what it was. Just offered for free with no strings and no anger.
She took that arm on her shoulder to be a good sign and continued. She hadn't expected to win this competition but she'd wanted to give it her best shot. She took the notes Eli sang and added them into the emotion she projected back out. Knowing someone truely loved music helped so much.
Mari smiled when he wiped a tear from her eyes and she exhaled slowly to cleans herself. She could sense the crowd packing it in. A few disappointed folks leaving as they realized they wouldn't make it in. She could tell Eli felt bad for her and he was curious about where she could pull that much emotion from. She didn't know what she was going to tell him. You didn't just say "Oh my ex boyfriend who helped me actually feel good about myself was always fixing everyone else and didn't have time for me because he was lunarly challenged."
"I will be. I just...well that song reminds me of my ex boyfriend a bit. Is all. He's in Virginia and I just came back to California not that long ago so I've not had much time to make friends again. Its nothin' to worry about, Eli. I'll be okay. I just gotta work out some family stuff. My daddy wants me to move back home and I want to live on my own. I don't suppose most folks have that problem." she admitted letting her southern Virginian drawl out.
She could hear her father in her head, he was not happy. "He's gonna be vexed about this but I wanted to do it for me. I need some things that are mine. I don't want...I don't want to have people in tuxedos and ball gowns staring at me when I sing anymore I want real people that honestly hear me. Not ones thinking "Oh look the disabled girl knows how to string a song together how quaint." she mimicked one of her father's elite snobby friends to a t and rolled her eyes. "You guys are real. I mean you get it. Them? They don't get shit."

She opened up, the best quality for a singer. Mari seemed like a really, really constrained girl who wanted to break lose. She wasn't the type who just loved music, it was deeper then that. It was like Eli. It was life. He sang because it gave him balance. Songs weren't just lyrics to him, it was more then that. This quality, the strength that she was showing him right now, was essential. Sure, she had a boyfriend who does her head in and a father that strongly, strongly tries to control her. Sounds like his dad. 'Eli, you can't go anywhere with music. Think practical damn it'. Um, screw you dad. He didn't want the simple office life. He wanted to sing, that's all, and maybe kill a few demons on the way. That's all! He gave Mari a warm smile as she spoke how real they were, and he couldn't help but smile.
''Babe, it will be okay. All I have to say is fuck everything. That's right, fuck it all. All you need to worry about yourself. Tell your dad, to go stick it and if you love this guy - - then tell him how you feel''. Eli looked down slightly. He sang for Axel. Things were great, but unsteady. Guilt ate at him everyday because he has to live with the fact that he tried to kill him. More importantly, tried to turn him. Things were cleared and Axel acted like it didn't phase him but Eli knew one thing; Axel could do much better then him. Someone not so - strange. Someone who can provide some normalicy in his life. Not a freak. That's just how he felt anyways. It looked like both him and Mari had some boyfriend issues.
''Here, let's do one more number. Love isn't negative darl, its amazing. If you have it - your lucky''. A smile spread across his face as he rose. His favourite duet of the 21st century, something that made love a whole lot better. Eli walked over towards his acoustic sitting in its case, and pulled it out as he sent the strap over his neck. ''I sang this to my boyfriend a few days ago. We turned it into jokey karaoke but maybe this will give you some perspective on your boyfriend situation''. Pulling out a pick from between the strings, he got ready. He strummed as he smiled at Mari. ''Do you here me? I'm talking to you. Across the water, Across the deep, blue, Ocean Under the open sky. Oh baby, I'm trying''. He kept strumming for Mari to take the girl's role. There is nothing in this big world that music couldn't fix.

Mari shook her head, "Philip packed up and left before he called my dad to get me. I care about him but I need a guy that's with me when the chips are down. It's another chapter in my life Eli. I'll move on I just had to release the sadness ya know?" she beamed at him and touched his shoulder gently, "You gotta forgive yourself honey. I'm a psychic and my empathy is telling me something's tearing at you. You've got a beautiful soul let it shine a bit." "Oh I know love is beautiful I just gotta find that one guy to share it with you know? I'll make it through. I'm a stubborn girl." she tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder and sighed contentedly before he began to sing. She grinned and joined him in the song picking up the song as if they'd planned it. Music was love and love was life. This empowered and energized her. She began to sway gently with him. Boy I hear you in my dreams I feel your whisper across the sea I keep you with me in my heart You make it easier when life gets hard
They harmonized through the chorus and she grinned. Happy songs like this took all the bad of the world and cleansed it. It was impossible to stay sad when you had this bubbly feeling bursting over you like champagne on a spring day. I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend Lucky to have been where I have been Lucky to be coming home again Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
They don't know how long it takes Waiting for a love like this Every time we say goodbye I wish we had one more kiss I'll wait for you I promise you, I will
I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend Lucky to have been where I have been Lucky to be coming home again Lucky we're in love every way Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed Lucky to be coming home someday
And so I'm sailing through the sea To an island where we'll meet You'll hear the music fill the air I'll put a flower in your hair Though the breezes through trees Move so pretty you're all I see As the world keeps spinning round You hold me right here right now
