Mari slowly rose, her form aching slightly from the surgery she'd undergone. Her back looked like she'd been mauled by a bear and she felt awful because her pain meds hadn't fully kicked in but she couldn't stand sitting there in pampered elegance any more. Moving down the hallway with a walker she shuffled good naturedly to catfch some air. She may have had to go back home when she recovered but for now she could wander the halls with the normal folks and just enjoy the stress free existence. Even her father had eased off when he'd seen how bad she had been hurt. She stretched carefully and hummed to herself I was raised in castles made of maple, fir and pine Sheltered under fortress walls built of fire and snow and time I grew up in cliffside caves playing tag with sand and Sound Walked on hidden city streets buried deep beneath the ground
I'll show you heights of stone and steel, a city brave and bold That the rainfall turns to silver and the sunset turns to gold Nestled down in velvet mountains and water's satin foam Where alchemy is everyday routine And of all the jewels I've seen Emerald green is the color of my home
You never know a city 'til you walk its streets at night Lay your hands on sunlit stone, or catch the scent of dawn's first light In watercolor autumn or the tapestry of spring When you listen for the little things, you can hear my city sing
I'll show you heights of stone and steel, a city brave and bold That the rainfall turns to silver and the sunset turns to gold Nestled down in velvet mountains and water's satin foam Where alchemy is everyday routine And of all the jewels I've seen Emerald green is the color of my home
And the roads that bind my family like a thousand ribbons tied Show me cities with their own enchantments, mystery and pride I feel their magic, hear their call, and their beauty I'll attest But the fairest is the one that knows me best
I feel a whispered welcome when I come home to the land Where the bridges tread the water and the driftwood paves the sand Where the lakes are clad in diamonds like the mirrors of a queen And the skyline is a living thing of forever evergreen
I'll show you heights of stone and steel, a city brave and bold That the rainfall turns to silver and the sunset turns to gold Nestled down in velvet mountains and water's satin foam Where alchemy is everyday routine And of all the jewels I've seen Emerald green is the color of my home [/i]

Aylen winced when Charles grabbed her arm roughly, and he drew away, before he reached out and took her hand instead. "I'm sorry," He muttered, and she could sense his embarrassed anger as he lead her into the hospital. Blood seeped from the gash in her upper right arm, despite the bandage that Charles had wrapped around it. Samuel was off that night, leaving it to Charles to take care of Aylen alone, and usually it didn't bother him. But tonight, Charles had been cleaning his swords when he'd needed to take a phone call, and had forgotten to tell Aylen so she wouldn't walk into it.
As it turned out, Aylen had tripped, and managed to tear a ragged gash in her right arm, high on the shoulder when she had fallen past his sword.
"Uh... Wait... Wait here okay?" Charles said as he helped Aylen sit down in one of the chairs in the waiting room before he moved off to find a doctor to help her. There was no one waiting at the front desk.
Aylen sat, alone for quite some time before she heard someone humming. She looked up, and saw an aura of pretty yellows and pinks slowly shuffling down the hallway. "That's a pretty song," Aylen said, deciding that talking to someone was better than having nothing to focus on but the pain in her arm. "What's it called?"

Marina paused and looked over at Aylen, "Hello." she murmured quietly as she carefully sat down next to her and felt the world spin again, "My name is Marina. Marina Sinclaire. The song is called Emerald Green. Its by a woman named Michelle Dockery." she says softly as she looked at Aylen's arm. She figured that the young woman would need something to distract her a bit, "I'm in here for back surgery. Music helps me feel better." she admits as she regarded the pretty woman.
"It looks like your friend went to get you some help. Is he going to mind me talking with you?" she asked shyly. "My dad's protective too so I always check. I don't want to be a bother or anything." she stretched lightly and sighed as she felt a bit dizzy, "I hope I get out of here soon. I want to see the orange blossoms before they die off." she said by way of conversation. She really didn't know what to say when meeting someone new. Not like she had a lot to go on. Friends weren't in her life unless you counted Rodney and Trenton.
She folded her hands and tried to get comfortable on the bench. Sitting was good. It kept her from falling over and embarrassing herself. Her nightgown wasn't hospital issued but then when your parent had money you got special perks. That was why she wore the yellow silk nightgown with purple roses on the sleeves and hem. She'd probably have someone trying to fetch her soon but for now she was free. She pushed her glasses up on her nose and wiggled her toes in her yellow slippers. They had bows on them and were flats but it was better than those ugly booties the hospital gave you.

Aylen smiled when the girl looked over at her and introduced herself before telling her the name of the song. "I'm Aylen. Aylen Cornick. Emerald Green by Michelle Dockery? I'm going to need to look it up." She smiled as she shifted on the hard plastic seat of the hospital chairs, and winced as it jostled her arm and made it burn and sting ferociously.
"Back surgery?" Aylen winced with sympathy. "I've never had surgery, but I've heard it was awful. I've never had stitches either, but I think I might need them tonight..." She frowned a little at the ache in her arm, before she turned to look at the woman in front of her. By the sound of it, she thought Marina was using a walker to move with, which would account for the slow pace she had noticed earlier.
"Charles?" Aylen smiled. "He's a jerk sometimes, but he doesn't mind if I talk with people. He's really a lot nicer than he seems. I've heard he looks grumpy a lot too, though I can't really tell." She shrugged, and winced again. "Oh damn it!" She muttered as she used her left hand to staunch the renewed bleeding in her arm. "I nearly forgot about my arm." She laughed a little, though it was a bit pained. Aylen looked up and shook her head.
"You aren't being a bother. If anything, you're helping me to keep from focusing on my arm. It really hurts..." She sighed. "Then again, Charles often tells me I'm a baby when it comes to pain. Maybe he was right." She smiled. "It's a pity that your dad is so protective. My mom is, which is why Charles is here. He's my chauffeur slash bodyguard. Mom's afraid I might get mugged on the streets or something," She said with another laugh.
"Hmm... I wonder what they look like?" She said in a soft voice when Marina brought up the orange blossoms. All she could see of them was the shifting aura all living things had, even plants. She knew that it was the same color as the plant, but still, it wasn't the same as actually seeing it. "I've never seen an orange blossom before. Are they pretty?"

Nodding to herself Mari made an agreeing noise, "Its not pleasant but I'm used to it. I got hurt getting this psycho guy off a girl in the hospital. It was really crazy but the cops drug him out of here. I just hurt my back in the process so they held me longer. I've got Cerebral Palsy so they get really worried over stuff. My dad insisted that they bring in a plastic surgeon." she sighed softly and pushed her glasses up on her nose.
"My dad has plain clothed body guards and never tells me their names. He's the owner of Sinclaire industries and is convinced some industrial spy is going to hurt me or something. He's gotten a lot of folks mad at him. Heck a guy talked to me while I was waiting for the bus and dad declared he was dangerous and moved all my stuff out of my apartment and back home."
She looked over at Aylen and looked about, moving gently she got some paper towels, "Here. This should help." she said quietly as she handed them to Aylen to place on the cut. "Best I can do in here till they can see you." she smiled at her, "You're not a baby. You're hurt its understandable."
She thought a moment, "Well I could try drawing it with my finger in your palm if you like." she offered as an idea. She might be able to project the image into the young woman's mind. "If you trust me that is. I can understand if you don' t want to. You don't know me after all." she looked at her hopefully and her eyes took in her coloration to make sure she wasn't going to faint.

Aylen's eyes popped wide when Mari explained how she hurt her back, and that she had cerebral palsy on top of it. "Oh man! That's tough... Why did the man attack the girl?" Aylen asked, still shocked. She thought she could sense something about the girl that she was talking with, but it was hard to focus long enough around the pain in her arm. Something about her aura seemed familiar to Aylen, but she couldn't place it.
"You never asked the guards their names before?" Aylen asked curiously. She couldn't picture herself not asking someone their name if she was going to be around them, even for a short time. She liked to know names of people, including those she was reading at Charms N Thangs. "I can't stand not knowing someone's name. I don't know why..." She frowned curiously at herself. She never really realized that about herself until now.
She looked up when she saw Mari move to get something, then bring it over to her. She reached out, and felt the texture of paper towels and smiled. "Thanks," She said as she wrapped it around her arm to help staunch the bleeding. She laughed. "Tell that to Charles. He's always going on and on about how big of a baby I am since I whine a lot when I get hurt or sick. I really don't whine that much. I think it's just Charles's way of getting back at me for naming my seeing-eye dog after him."
Samuel had asked her, once, why she continued to irritate Charles. It'd been right after she had gotten her new dog, and she had replied 'It's simple, really. You never anger a witch, so I find other ways to irritate him. He grates on my nerves you know?' Samuel had only laughed, and Aylen had smiled before she had into the Golden Cuisine to meet her mother for lunch.
"Oh! Could you?" Aylen's eyes went a little dreamy at the thought of Marina drawing the flower on her hand with a finger. "I asked Charles to do it once, but he just grumped at me. And Samuel, his brother, can't draw for anything..."

Marina shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. I was in too much pain to ask. Her name was Jace and she'd been in the hospital for hurting her leg. She's really pretty too. I hope she did alright. I didn't want to be too nosy about her issues." she admitted as she looked at the other woman and shifted slightly. Her back was hurting a little so it helped to move from time to time.
Mari shook her head and her blond curls tickled her cheeks, "Father doesn't permit fraternization with folks that work for him. I'm not allowed to talk to them. It could get them fired. He's really intense about it. I usually just keep to myself mostly. I'll tell Charles if you want. My dad says the one part of being a lady I didn't get was the ability to hold my tongue. I'm always saying whats on my mind but its hard when folks judge you before you say anything. I think its great you named your seeing eye dog after him." she admitted with a warm chuckle as she checked to see if anyone was in the room.
"I'd love to. Here..." she said gently as she began sketching the leaves in Aylen's palm, trying to project the image of an orange blossom in her mind."Its pretty and white and so delicate that the petals feel like silk that has been warmed in the sun. Sometimes they have a little bit of yellow in the center but each one is different."

"Hmm, I understand," Aylen said, patting Mari's arm when she said she hadn't wanted to be nosy about why the girl, Jace, had been attacked. "I hope she's okay too," Aylen agreed. Despite the fact that she had never met this Jace, she was sincere when she said that she hoped she was okay. Aylen always had a soft spot for those who were hurt or hurting.
Aylen's eyes popped wide when Mari said that her father would fire anyone that Mari spoke to. "Oh!" She blinked. "Well... That's just rude!" She decided after a moments thought. She couldn't understand it. Her parents were extremely protective of her, but they would never have done anything so extreme as to fire someone simply because she'd talked to them. "Maybe I just can't understand the situation, though, since I don't know your father..." Aylen mused softly.
When Mari grabbed her hand gently and began to draw what an orange blossom looked like, Aylen's eyes went soft. "Oh," She said softly. "It seems like it would be beautiful, doesn't it?" She smiled, and heard someone walking down the hallway.
"Aylen?" A nurse, followed closely by Charles, appeared in the doorway. "A doctor will see you know. Sorry about the wait." Aylen smiled, then turned to Mari.
"Thank you for keeping me company Marina," Aylen said as she squeezed Mari's hand softly before she got up. "I hope you feel better soon." She walked over to where she could see the auras of the two people waiting for her, and glanced back at Mari to smile before she let the nurse lead her away.

Mari smiled weakly, "My dad is the world's biggest curmudgeon. He thinks guys are...not safe." she murmured as she looked at her and patted her hand very gently, "You should see Dr. Holem. He's a good Doctor and would be very understanding of what happened when you tell him. He's always patching me up." she said with a slight smirk. "Be well and take care. I hope you feel better soon." she called to her as the nurse lead her away and then Mari rose and took her walker back to her room. She stopped by the nurse's station and jotted a note down for Dr. Holem about Aylen. She didn't know if he would have time to see her but it couldn't hurt to make a note. She texted her dad and asked for some allowance. If Aylen's medical didn't cover Logan's services Mari would do an anonymous gift donation. THREAD CLOSED [/center]
