The sunlight from the window landed on her cheek, causing Lelia to stir. Opening one eye slowly, she raised an arm to cover her eyes and block out the sun. Her mouth felt dry, not an entirely new sensation, and she didn't recognize where she was. All she could remember was going to the dance club last night, some songs that played, and some guy she was talking to. Sitting up slowly, Lelia yawned as she looked around the room, this definitely was not her home. That was when she finally became aware of another presence, there was someone sleeping in the bed next to her. Blinking her eyes for a moment, Lelia slipped out of the bed quietly, finding her pants and her jacket.
There was nothing out of the ordinary here for her, sneaking out of their homes after a night of drinking and dancing. God forbid if she ever stayed she might find someone she liked, but everything in her screamed to run. She could never stop long enough to let anyone close to her heart, she never wanted to feel that pain again when they left. Hitting the side walk on such a bright morning, Lelia fished a pair of glasses out of her pocket, sliding them on so that she could actually see her surroundings. She was downtown somewhere, the area didn't look as bad as she was used to, but she couldn't read the street sign from this distance, especially not with her head feeling like it was going to split in two.
"Just my luck.." she said, sighing as she looked around for her car. Nothing, it was nowhere to be seen, he must have driven her here. Sighing softly, Lelia started to hoof it, realizing she would look stupid if she went back inside and asked for a ride. What was she going to do, go back upstairs and tell him that she didn't realize she didn't drive her before she bailed on him? That would go over pretty well, even she didn't have the ability to lie that well. The neighborhood didn't look so bad, maybe she could hitch a ride with someone, she was definitely no stranger to that either.
Walking down the side walk, Lelia would occasionally turn and try to flag down a car with little success. She was doomed to make the miserable walk all the way home with a raging headache. "You picked the one night to lose control where you didn't bring a friend with you.." she said, probably louder than she meant to as she got looks from people passing her on the streets. She laughed at their looks, avoiding her like she was a rambling lunatic.

”Oh man, oh man, oh man!” Zach said as he speed walked down Main Street. He couldn’t believe how late he was going to be. This was a normal instance for him. When it came to making it on time to classes, but his job? Nope this would be his first time. But regardless if he was five minutes late or twenty, Ariel Dawson would reem him. He was getting to the point where he just didn’t care anymore. Mrs. Dawson hated him. He knew it. The other people at the firm knew it. Everything he did no matter how much time he spent trying to perfect it, the bitch would find something wrong with it. But today, he just didn’t need her bullshit. He had gotten up so late that he had debated on whether to just call in sick with his fake flu voice. But no, he would be the bigger person and face the demon head on sword and all. Too bad he couldn’t slay it. That would make things way easier.
As Zach turned down Zimmerman, he couldn’t help but see wavy blonde hair across the street by a burger joint. Jacinta? Maybe. He wasn’t sure. As long as he’d been living in LA, he’d never once thought he’d seen Jace. Now that he knew she was attending the same school as he was, she could be anywhere which was making him a tad uneasy. It wasn’t that he didn’t’ want to see her. He couldn’t believe that he had the chance to make things right now. Granted, he did freak out on her yet again at the pizza place, but he was not prepared at all for seeing her again. He knew that he had screwed things up with her, but he was willing to try and understand this time. But seeing her with those guys across the street made him rather jealous even though he probably didn’t have a chance at all with her again. When she flipped her long hair to the side, he tried to catch a glimpse of her face. Who knew, maybe he was just imagining it was Jacinta. It could be someone completely not Jacinta.
Zach was too busy studying this girl across the street talking to like three guys that he hadn’t even noticed the girl who was walking right in front of him. The impact was pretty intense. After all, he was already walking quickly. Instead of falling backwards, he instinctively grabbed onto the woman’s arms steadying them both so neither of them would fall. He said nothing to the woman as he glanced back over at the Jacinta look alike who was already turned and facing him now. Yep, she was in fact just a look alike. He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly glancing now at the woman he so rudely plowed into and ignored. He quickly let her go forgetting that he still had a hold on her upper arms. “Uh, I’m sorry. Wasn’t paying attention.”

It was warm, always so warm here, she wondered if it ever cooled down. The sun beat on her skin, making her feel even crappier than she already felt. This walking thing was a drag, especially here in L.A. where the weather was usually always friendly-ish during the day. She longed to be back in Seattle, she had spent a few months up there in her own personal exile, however it was out of the question now. She crossed a few people up there, the wrong people, and had to skip town as quickly as possible. On top of all that she had gotten wind that her sister had managed to track here up there, it took everything in her power to stay steps ahead of her family.
With her head swimming it was no surprise that she crashed head long into someone, though he seemed to have it together more than she did. Feeling him grip her upper arms, she freaked out as if she was trapped. Being in this position reminded her for a terrible time, the people she usually associated with could be incredibly abusive. However when she realized that nothing was coming, that he was not sent after her, she relaxed and it was plainly obvious. Looking up at him for a moment behind her smokey glasses, she stared at him as if in a daze, she might as well have been. That little bump had sent her mind reeling, the curse of having a hangover. He was cute though, so she could excuse him just this once, maybe.
"It's not like I should be recieving navigator of the year awards anytime soon either. It takes two to have an accident." she said, a smirk on her face. She was always full of energy and things to say regardless of how she felt. Straightening herself, she looked around to try and figure out why he was in a hurry. No one was chasing him, and from the way he was walking she couldn't figure out what he was heading for. "Where are you running off to handsome? It's a bright sunny morning, relax and enjoy it a bit!" she said, laughing at herself. Handsome? Maybe she wasn't sober yet afterall.
"Lelia." she said, sticking out a hand, though she wasn't sure why. She had this feeling about him, that he was less of a douche than most of the people she normally 'bumped' into in the city. "Got a name?"

He smiled at her. “Yeah, I guess it does,” he replied to her comment about him not being the only one at fault for the collision. The sun beat down on her dirty blonde hair making it shine a bit more than it probably would normally, and as she continued talking, all he could focus on were her eyes now. Her grayish-rimmed glasses only brought out the blue in her eyes. When he realized that she had stopped talking and was now looking at him as if she had asked him something, Zach quickly went into think mode. What the heck had she just asked him? He reached around under his book bag to scratch his back. “Uh….” All he could think of was the word handsome that she ‘might’ have said. Gosh he hated his ADHD. Especially when he was meeting new people. He wished he could just shut it off and on whenever he wanted. If only that was a possibility. If it was, he would definitely shut it off when his boss yelled at him for something ridiculous. Going! That was what she asked him. She had asked him where he was going. “….oh I’m just heading to work. Woke up a bit later than I was supposed too.” He shrugged as if he didn’t care. “It happens.” And as of right now, he really didn’t care anymore. He was way past being a little late. It was more like ‘oh we should start calling someone else to fill in for him’ late. Yes, it was a little distressing because of the yelling he’d have to endure from Ariel Dawson, the Ice Queen, but it wasn’t like she could get rid of him. Even though she was his boss at work, she wasn’t in charge of any of that; the school was. And there was really no reason for her to complain about him anyway. What did she have against him? He’d never been late until now. The only problem was that she just didn’t like his personality, and he asked a lot of questions. But now that he was getting to know this girl, he was started to feel like he’d rather spend the day chilling with her than even showing up to work.
”Doesn’t everybody?” He asked smiling. “My name’s Zach,” he said taking her hand and shaking it firmly, “and are you hungry because I’m starving and craving pastries. Wanna hit up the donut shop or something. I’m thinking you might be a lot more fun to hang around than my peeps over at Hart Enterprises.” He laughed. Sure he was being a bit bold asking her out to breakfast, but it wasn’t like it was a date. It was more just trying to get to know someone and focus on someone other than Jace for a while. And knowing Zachary, that is exactly something he would do. He was never one to care what people thought of him. Why should this girl be any different?

Lelia laughed at the fact that they were both basically having the same sort of morning. Neither of them seemed to be in any mood to deal with the days obligations, neither of them had woken up on time, but they both knew that there was no other choice. Showing a big goofy grin, she couldn't help be smile at the guy as he seemed so confused while she was talking. She figured his mind was elsewhere, it didn't bother her so much that he didn't seem to catch what she said at first. "Well, I guess we're both in the same boat. I forgot to set an alarm, now there is no point for me to even bother." she said, smirking as she realized she had missed work again.
It didn't bother her so much, she was used to it by now, so were her managers. While they chewed her out, they also understood that she was good at her job when she was there, perhaps one of the better Bartenders. "You alright Zach? You seem distracted." she said, raising a brow at him. He seemed odd, sort of like she was when she wasn't sober, but that was definitely not it. Lelia could practically sense her own kind, he was definitely not one to party in the same way she normally did. "Sorry, I'm being weird. Might still be a bit drunk from the night before. A couple friends of mine had a party.. yeah.." she said, realizing she was telling her life story to a stranger.
"..but sure, I could eat!" she replied, that was one thing Lelia never said no to. Despite her smaller frame, she could put away food as if she was a black hole, making alot of men seem like they ate like children. It was refreshing to find someone who could come out with it without seeming like they were shy or embarassed, it was the main reason she would even said yes. "Hart Enterprises huh? Sounds pretty fancy, what do you do there?" she asked, before taking a brief look around at her surroundings. It was then that it all came back to her, she had no clue where she was right now.
"I forgot that I don't really know this part of town all too well anymore. Looks like you're up for navigator of the year." she said, nudging him playfully.

Zach nodded shoving his hands into his faded blue jeaned pockets. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He chuckled. “This is normal me.” He listened as she apologized for being ‘weird’. He wished he could just tell her that she was the furthest thing from weird after what he had seen in the past year. He had seen the impossible, and he kind of wondered what else was out there. There had to be more than just a bed catching on fire and a napkin floating. What else could happen. What else could Jace do? He had to get a hold of her. He still had a phone number in his phone, but he hadn’t had the guts to call her. It probably wasn’t even her number anymore. “You? Being weird? Nah, I wouldn’t say weird. And for someone with a possible hangover, you definitely handle it pretty well.” She didn’t look at all like she had been drinking the night before. Even though he wasn’t a huge drinker, he had still had a few hangovers and drunken fun times in his life. He could actually use a night out to get wasted. It had been so long.
When Lelia started asking about Hart Enterprises, he wished he hadn’t even brought it up. Internships were supposed to be fun and full of helpful experience. So, what the hell was he doing at Hart Enterprises? “It is actually. Very fancy. It’s a law firm. I’m a business major and working there is sort of an internship for me. I’m not gonna lie though, I really haven’t even started doing anything businesslike. I’m more of the go to guy when people want take out.” He sighed. “I know. So freakin’ lame. And believe me, I am so pissed about it. But it’s a paid internship. I just wish I was getting the experience.”
He smiled as she nudged him. “What makes you think I know this part of town? Just because I’m in it? Because if that was the case you would know too. And if you don’t know this part of town, why were you even in it? These friends, you must not know them that well.” He laughed. He had seriously no business saying any of this to her. She probably was thinking that he was a complete jerk because he was so blunt with everything. But it was whatever. That was how he was, and he liked to make that clear before he started really spending time with someone. He had to make sure she knew what she was getting into if they were possibly going to be friends, which he could already see that they were.

Lelia eyed him for a moment longer, letting her gaze linger on him. Maybe she wasn't the odd one here afterall. He seemed like he was somewhere else at times during this little conversation, she wondered what kept him occupied otherwise. While he didn't seem like the sort of guy to have a list of troubles from how happy and friendly he seemed she knew that perception could be incredibly inaccurate. "I guess I do. I am a proffessional." she said, before raising a finger to correct herself. "Wait a minute, I just realized how bad that sounded. I swear I'm not like an alcoholic or something." she said, though that was exactly what she was even if she wouldn't admit it.
Raising her brow slowly, she seemed slightly intrigued by what he did. That was until he went on about how lame it was. She didn't think that at all, at least the title of his job seemed more important than most peoples job. Plus it was all about the experiance, which he obviously was not getting. "Ooo. A law firm, that is pretty fancy. Though, I guess it kind of sucks to be a gopher." she said, teasing him a bit. "I wouldn't feel too bad about it, at least you get paid to order take out? I'd trade you any day of the week." she said, thinking about going to work tonight. There would be a whole new crowd of drunk jerks to deal with.
"I just assumed.. but I guess I made an.. well you know the rest." she said, laughing. It was the first laugh she had in quite awhile that felt good, probably because it wasn't a laugh at her own crappy life. "Well uh, do you even know where to go for pastries then?" she asked, shaking her head. How inconvienient it must have been to make the suggestion and then have no idea how to see it through or where you were going. About to say something else, Lelia was caught off guard a bit by his blunt comments. "Eh, well no, not really. Sometimes I can be a pretty stupid drunk. Leaving with people I don't know for parties and other stuff.. yeeaaaap." she said, feeling a bit uncomfortable about the implied other stuff.
Pulling out her phone, she looked through the apps on it, pulling up some sort of map. It listed all the resturants nearby, thankfully, and gave instructions on how to get there. "Cellphones save lives. I don't know where I would be without this thing." she said, turning to face the direction they needed to go. "Were you walking to work or did you drive and park somewhere?" she asked, wondering if she would still be dragging her butt through the heat. "It's hotter than a dance club out here this morning. Wouldn't kill us to get a little wind or something.."

Zach nodded and laughed when she mentioned that she was a professional. “Wow, an alcoholic. Maybe I shouldn’t be hanging with you. You might be too much of a bad influence.” It was a joke. He really wasn’t one to follow other people, at least not anymore. And he had quite a few friends that were all about the partying scene already.
”Ah, a gopher. I like that analogy. Yes, I definitely feel like a gopher at times. But I guess you’re right. Getting paid is better than doing it for free. And what do you mean trading? Where do you work?” He did wish that Ariel Dawson would give him something useful though. But most of the people that came into the firm were a bit fishy. He was starting to think that the firm wasn’t just a firm. There were some things that he came across in documents while snooping around that he really wasn’t sure about. It really wasn’t his business anyway, but his curiosity never seemed to go away. After all, when all he did was file, answer phones, carry boxes to storage, and pick up take out, he had to do something else to entertain himself at Hart Enterprises.
Zach watched her become a little uneasy. He smiled as she pulled out her cellphone. “I was just messing with you. Giving you a hard time. What you like to do or whatever is so not my business. I do know this part of town pretty well actually. Hart Enterprises is just around the corner.” He figured he’d stop the awkwardness now before it got so bad that she just walked away thinking he was a weirdo or something. “And I actually walked. But I know a great coffee shop down the street a few blocks that has some really good muffins. If you don’t mind walking, we could head there.” He nodded as she went on to talk about the weather. She was right. It was horribly humid. Even if there was a breeze, it would most likely only be hot air. “Yeah, I’m kind of used to the hot weather, but it’s pretty bad today.”

Lelia blinked at him, this guy just seemed to dive right into the deep end. He was already teasing her like they were old friends, making her smirk at him. Slugging his shoulder, since the gloves were off, Lelia laughed at him a bit louder than her head would allow. "Okay, laugh it up buddy. But no one can get through their life without their party buddy. Everyone needs to let loose sometimes." she said, sticking her tongue out. She knew that alot of people probably acted like she did, however their excuse was probably alot flimsier than her own.
"Not that I'm trying to down play your suffering or anything." she added quickly, she didn't want to come across as jerk. "I work as a bartender at Midnight, one of the bars in town. Coincidence huh? A bartender with a hang over!" she joked, shaking her head. She didn't have to accept all the drinks people bought her, but then again turning down a free drink just wasn't in her to do. "You deal with all the drunk, aggressively flirtatious men, and I will order take out." she said, smiling at him. It was kind of funny that she was on a different path at some point, until she crashed and burned. Now she helped others do it to themselves every night.
Shaking her head, Lelia sighed, her smirk never leaving. "I guess I fail at spotting some jokes in this state." she said. If it wasn't far then it was probably the best news she could have ever gotten, there would be air conditioner. "Sounds like a good plan to me. I could use some coffee and a muffin to soak up the left overs." she said, still feeling the effects of what she drank the night before vaguely. She couldn't imagine how anyone would get used to this sort of weather, all her life on the west coast and it never got any better to her. "You my friend are a very odd guy. I'll never figure out how people get used to this, sweating makes me feel like a pig." she said, shaking her head.

Zach nodded with a smile on his face. “Very good point there.” There wasn’t anything at all wrong with what she was saying. He actually agreed with her for the most part. He just liked to let loose in other ways. “Hmm, well the next time you feel like letting loose, you should call me. I’ve been dying to go skinny dipping in the campus fountain.” It was a bit immature, Zach would admit, but it was something exciting and out there. And if he got caught and had to run for it, it would be even better. Those were the things that made him loosen up. They were fun and exhilarating. Most of his friends were too chicken to agree to anything like that. Although he had hopes for this girl. She seemed to know how to have a good time.
”Nah, nah, it’s cool. Believe me, I know how gopher-like I am.” When she mentioned that she was a bartender he was taken back. Was she really that much older than he was? She didn’t look it at all. “A bartender, huh? How old are you anyways? Because I pegged you for 20.” He hoped she wasn’t too much older. He wasn’t big on dating older women, not that this would become dating. But if it had, would it be bad if she was older? I mean he thought she was younger, so did that count for something? “I would be glad to switch jobs. It’ll give you a break from all the guys, right? And I really wouldn’t have to worry about that. And even if the ladies became aggressively flirtatious I think I could handle that one with much pleasure.”
When she commented about not being able to recognize a joke, Zach just chuckled. “No, I just suck at making them.” He really was horrible at cracking jokes. Most of the jokes he said were lame, overused, or didn’t make any sense at all. But he still said them because things just tended to flow from his mouth sometimes without him being able to stop them. He was quite used to making himself look like a complete idiot.
”Yeah, let’s start heading that way,” Zach said as Lelia confirmed their plans. “Yeah I do a lot of sweating myself. It’s not pretty. I just always have to be doing something though. And most of the things I do tend to just bring on the sweat. Running is a must. Soccer is a blast. Any sport actually is pretty high up on my ‘must try’ list. And believe me, that list is really freakin’ big. What about you? You seem like a sporty type of girl. Do you play anything?” He asked turning towards the direction of the coffee shop. He started walking figuring that she would follow him.

"Of course it was a good point, those are about the only kind I ever make." she said with a mock tone of surperiority. To go along with this she even waved her hand dismissingly as if he had already stated something she knew. There was a look of absolute mischief in her eyes as he mentioned something about skinny dipping in a fountain, that was how she knew she would one day come to consider this man to be her best friend. She always hard crazy ideas, things she would probably do without a second thought if she had someone to do them with her. What was the point of being wild, crazy, and spontaneous if you shared the laugh with no one?
Lelia laughed at him, giving him a quick smile. "Well, now that you mention it, I can see the-" she started, trailing off. She was about to make a joke about him looking like the animal when she decided it would probably just be better to keep that to herself. She was surprised when he seemed confused by the fact that she worked in a bar, did she really look young? "I'm about twenty-three, not that I really want to talk about my age, you butt." she said swatting him playfully as she laughed. She didn't care a whole lot, but most women seemed to be incredibly sensitive about how old they were, it was laughable.
"Oh for sure, let's do it. A break would be nice and from the sound of it you could use a good time." she said, sticking out her tongue. Even though he was joking, anyone who could put up with the hassle of that job must have needed a good pick me up, sometimes the attention did just that. She didn't really presume to know anything about him, she was just guessing that he had a few things to deal with in personal life, like everyone seemed to now a days. He was modest too? This wasn't normally the sort of person that she ran into ever, he was probably too good of a person to be friends with her she told herself. "Nah, you're alright at them. Just you know, blonde." she said, playing it off with the colour of her hair.
"Sounds good." she said, following him towards the shop. That was when she found out he was absolutely mad, sports in this weather!? She laughed at him, shaking her head. "I had a feeling you were the sunny, let's go frolic in it type. But yeah, I actually do play sports. Just.. only for fun. Basketball really, though I suck." she said, smiling. "I tried to play soccer once, I was pretty awful. I tripped over my own feet more than anything. If there was an award for most falls during a game, I'd be the champion." she said, laughing. It was nice just having a normal conversation, no pressure from anyone.
She could see the coffee shop creeping up on them pretty quickly, seemed like the start of something fun for once, something possibly good for her.
