Jayla got up off the ground and looked around her, while she swallowed a couple times, by how dry her throat had gotten. Where was she? Why was she here? This were only a few of the questions that kept her up and moving. It seemed like she was in an abandoned apartment, but.. why? She couldn't remember going here, let alone falling asleep here.
In fact, she remembered very little of what had happened. And this kind of scared her, since she almost always remembered where she was, or how the hell she got there. But now? Now it was just a blur. As if her mind was not her own. And the things she did remember, weren't exactly happy ones; like how angry she was at Zachary for showing up at the whole reunion. She had wanted to turn into a Banshee and slice open his throat or something like that. But she hadn't done anything! She had just left and once she came back to her room in college, she had quickly decided to go out for a walk, which had then turned into jogging, only to end with her running feverishly, to try and outrun her thoughts.
But after that.. After that she had blacked out, to the point where she could no longer control her actions or remember what happened, now that she was awake and all. Had the Banshee in her taken over? Was that why she couldn't remember a damn thing? It was a possibility, one she preferred not to dwell on too long. But, it remained a possibility.
Slowly, she started walking across the floor, littered with debris and looked around her. Her blue eyes went searching for something she remembered, until she got this sudden burst of panic, going through her, in waves of fear and a pang of regret. There were no memories. Nothing. But those feelings.. They were so strong.. So unbelievably strong that her heart started beating faster and before she knew it, she ran outside, into the cool morning air. She had to get out of here!
Morning? Why was it morning? How was it already morning? Puzzled she looked up at the sun, that already risen and realized something that drew her back to reality. Jacinta must be worried sick! She quickly reached for her cellphone, only to realize it wasn't there. She hadn't taken it with her! How could she have been so stupid?
As she silently berated herself, she heared sounds.. voices, coming from all directions, that made her panic grow only more and more. By now almost everything made her want to run away. But, where could she go? She couldn't stay here anyway, no way she could. But, she didn't have her cellphone with her and she had no idea where she was. Besides, she couldn't just walk up to someone and ask for directions, without having to fear a knife in her back. But, what else could she do? Yes, she could walk along the road, hoping for a sign of recognition. Anything was better then nothing, right? With a sigh, she started walking, staying away from alleyways.

Zach was stressed, really stressed, and it wasn’t because of homework. He honestly didn’t care at all about that right now. Jace was back and so was the rest of his past. Jayla and Axel. It was strange seeing everyone together again. But they didn’t stay together. Jayla and Axel left leaving Jace and Zach both alone. And of course, Zach screwed that up yet again. She had used her ability again right in front of him. But it was expected for him to freak out. Who wouldn’t? I mean maybe someone who knew about Jace and her powers, but he didn’t. He had no idea how she was doing what she was doing. And at the rate he was going, he probably wasn’t ever going to find out. He wanted to understand. He really did, but he had to be open minded and that was going to be a challenge.
So with all this on his mind, where did Zach usually go to clear his thoughts? To the abandon houses off of Monroe Street. Yes, it was a bit of a dump, but it wasn’t like he could just chill out back at his dorm. Trenton wasn’t always there, but he’d always come in at the wrong times. And there weren’t many other quiet places on campus. And the library? Ha, that was a joke. There was nothing silent about that place. It reminded him of a cafeteria more than a library. So, here he was, heading to his favorite spot. But just as the site of this house came into view, someone was running out of it and onto the street. So much for nobody being around.
Zach headed after the girl. The last thing he wanted to do was try to find another spot to chill by himself. This town was full of abandoned houses, but probably none of them were as cool as this one. He had even set up shop in there. Well, shop was actually already there. The owners beforehand had left a few pieces of furniture. When he caught up to her, he grabbed her arm pulling her around to face him. “Hey, what were you doing in there!” When he realized who it was, he immediately let go of her. Oh man, it was Jayla. Of all people to run into at this moment. Just great.

When someone grabbed her by the arm, the familiar tug of anxiety returned and she felt her heart pounding in her throat even more so, then before. This was all because she only half expected to be stabbed or something else along those lines. She wasn't normally so scared of what might happen, but with little to no memory of the day before, she couldn't really help it.
When she heard an all too familiar voice, she felt her resolves somewhat disappearing and she felt her body calm down. And as she turned around, she knew exactly why that was. ”Zach..” She said softly, as she didn't know whether to be happy or not. She could just as easily just ignore him, but she was doubtful that would bring her anywhere, anytime soon. ”Where are we?”
It was just really annoying that she couldn't remember anything. Not where she was, or how she even got here. And then she got to stand in front of the person she least expected to be seeing.. Zachary, Jace's ex-boyfriend and the guy she had never been sure if she liked him or hated him. What was he even doing here to begin with? She shrugged off those thoughts and felt her panic returning, in all it's might and power and it almost made her knees buckle, which she luckily could still withstand. she gulped and looked around her, frantically looking for a sign of recognition now.
”I remember nothing.” She said softly, as if not really believing her words, even though they were still nothing but true. ”Not how I got here or what I am even doing here.. What is this place? Are we even still in LA?”

Zach could feel Jayla’s arm tense when he pulled her around. Whatever had happened before he came up and grabbed her wasn’t good. She was either scared or really upset. He could see those emotions in her eyes when he met them with his own. But she seemed to calm down once she noticed it was him, which was a bit strange considering the fact that he thought she hated him. He would have thought that seeing him would make her more anxious. Apparently he wasn’t as uneasy as whoever she thought was out to get her. Even though he and Jayla weren’t the best of friends, in fact they really weren’t friends at all, he still felt that he needed to be serious and nice to her at this moment. “Hey, hey. Are you okay? What happened to you?” When she asked where they were, he was really curious now. She walked right out of the abandoned house. She had to have known where she was. Unless someone had taken her there. “Hey, did someone hurt you, Jayla? Is someone else in that house?”
Zach stopped asking questions when he could see that Jayla was getting upset. “I’m sorry. I’m just trying to help,” Zach apologized. After he said this, she answered his question with a pretty complex answer. One, she didn’t remember anything. Two, she had no idea where she was. And three, she really thought they weren’t even in LA anymore. “Jayla, if we weren’t in LA why the hell would I be here with you?” He smirked at her. It was probably an inappropriate time for him to be funny, but that was how he tried to solve problems. The only person he ever had to be serious with was Jacinta, and that was because he was dating her at the time. Even then, he had such a hard time with it because that was normally the first thing that came out of his mouth. Something that was funny to lighten the mood and make people feel better. He hoped it was working for Jayla, but he really wasn’t sure it was going to work this time. “Yeah. We are in LA. Monroe Street.” He glanced back over at the abandoned house. “Did you maybe want to go back in there to see if we can figure out what happened? Maybe it’ll refresh your memory a bit.” This was probably a better way to tackle this little situation. He just hoped they could find something in there. He was actually a little worried about her even though they weren’t that close.

Jayla really was somewhat happy to see him, she decided. Even though it was the familiarity of him she liked. When he started asking her questions, she just looked at him, with an almost blank expression, before looking back at the house, at his question if someone was there or not. “I don't know.. I don't think so.. I didn't really look, just got out of there.” She was honest, even though it was for a completely different reason then he seemed to think.
She nodded and closed her eyes for a second, before opening her eyes again. “I'm being stupid.” She said, as she realized her being afraid, made no sense at all. She slowly relaxed a little bit and nodded. “Thanks..” She said, as she really did mean it. She may have never been the best of friends with him, but she was still trying and just 'cause he had dumped her best friend, was reason enough to stop trying to, even though she did, at some point.
When she heard his question, she slowly nodded. “I just don't know what we're going to find..” She said, as she looked at him again, uncertain if now was a good time to tell him that she wasn't 'normal' either. “I remember going out for a walk, then I woke up in that building. Everytihng in between is gone.” She said, as she bit her lip.

Zach watched her as she began to answer his questions. He sort of felt bad now that he had asked her so many questions. She seemed really out of it and still attempting to piece everything she could back together. She was extremely overwhelmed and he knew it. “Hey, you aren’t stupid, okay? I can’t even remember where I left my brain most of the time. I mean, you know that first hand right?” He asked with a small smile. He wrapped his arm around her which was a bit of a stretch, but he wanted to make sure she felt safe before they went in there together. “Well, hopefully we’ll find something to give us some clues as to what happened to you last night.”
Zach let go of her and stepped forward towards the house. He glanced back at her and nodded towards the house. “Come on. Let’s find that in between stuff.” Zach wouldn’t show weakness to Jayla, so the fact that he was a bit scared wasn’t something that was plastered all over his face. He’d seen a bed combust and a floating napkin, but something told him that those were just minor things and only the beginning of it all.

Jayla looked at Zach and bit her lip, as she tried to calm down and not go completely nuts on him too, as he totally didn't deserve that. "I kind of do." She joked, as she smiled slightly. When he pulled an arm around her, she smiled and nodded, as she looked at him. "Thanks." She said, even though she was a little hesistant to what they might or might not find.
It was weird that she didn't remember, because she normally remembered those things. Of what she had done. But not now.. Why? She shook her head slightly and closed her eyes for a second, before opening them again. "I don't know what we'll find." She then said softly and honestly. "I mean, what if something horrible happened? What if I did something?" She went quiet and when he let her go, she looked back at the house.
Jayla bit her lip, when he already walked to the house and followed him, as she tried not to let her own discomfort show. She wasn't much scared, she was just.. rattled. As if someone had thrown her whole world to pieces in a blink of an eye. And with how much the world was changing as of lately, she doubted that this would change soon.

”If something horrible happened, we’ll deal with it,” Zach said glancing back with her with a smile. Zach turned back towards the house. He headed up the stairs stopping right in front of the open door. “Okay so are you….” Zach paused when he spotted something on the door frame in front of him. He stepped closer to the door frame. A smear of red covered the inside of the dirty white door frame. When Jayla said that something horrible might have happened in the abandoned house, seeing blood was not something Zach thought of as a possibility. “Hey, Jayla, I’m thinking you might want to stay out here,” he said glancing back at her. He didn’t know Jayla all that well, but he was pretty sure with her being already a bit frazzled by the current situation, seeing whoevers body this blood belonged to would just make things worse. He remembered her mentioning that she might have done something. Whatever was behind this threshold, he doubted it was something Jayla could have done.

Jayla nodded and looked at him, not liking it one bit. "Am I what?" She asked, as she looked at the doorframe too and immediately felt her heartbeat quicken to a pace where she wanted to turn around and run away. This was exactly what she had been scared of finding! She shook her head and looked back at Zach. "No.. No, I have to see what happened." She said, as she pushed past him to go back inside.
However, once she was inside, she wished she hadn't gone in at all. There was a man lying on the floor, with a pool of blood around his head, signifying how his ears had burst from her scream.. "Oh my God.." She said, as she gasped and stumbled backwards, back to the front door, almost tripping over herself. "I think we better get going." She said quietly, once she made it back to Zach. After all, she didn't want him to get the blame for something she had done.

Before Zach could stop her, Jayla pushed past him and ran through the front door. “Jayla…..” It only took a few seconds for her to stumble backwards and head back towards the front door. When he looked at her, she looked horrified. When she told him that they better leave, Zach knew what she had seen had to be horrible. Zach stepped forward into the house leaving Jayla outside the door. He didn’t have to go to deep into the house to see the body lying in a pool of blood. He turned on his heel and headed back to Jayla. He’d never seen a dead body before, but he was handling it well surprisingly. Maybe it was because he had seen so many horror movies and knew how cruel the world really was. Even if he was upset about what he had just seen, he couldn’t freak out. Not now. Not when Jayla was here.
”Come on, I’ll take you home.” Zach wasn’t going to just leave the body there, but he wanted to take Jayla home first and then come back for the body. He would call the police then. Involving Jayla at this point wouldn’t be a good idea. They would jump all over Jayla because she didn’t remember anything from the night before. Meaning they would assume that she had something to do with the killing of this man. Zach didn’t know Jayla well, but killing was something he was pretty sure she wouldn’t be capable of doing.

Jayla looked at Zach, with bleary eyes and a foggy mind, that refused to clear up. When he entered the house, she knew what he would find and a part of her was sure he'd blame her. However when he turned on his heel and came back to her, she was confused. "You okay?" She asked softly, knowing she sure as hell wasn't. When did you get to see a dead body? She wouldn't be surprised if it was his first. And it wasn't hers, totally didn't make it seem any fair. "I'm sorry I dragged you into this."
She nodded, when he started about going home, which totally seemed like a good idea. She just had to get out of here and get as far away as possible from the body, even though she knew she would never forget the face of they guy she had killed. "What are you going to do?" She asked, as she knew he probably wouldn't stay. "I mean, after you brought me home? You're not going back, are you? I mean.. You can just anonymously call the cops, right? We both can.." She didn't want him to get the blame or anything. He didn't deserve that.

”I’m okay,” Zach nodded. He realized how crazy she must have thought he was for not freaking out. He was a bit surprised at himself too. But it wasn’t like the guy was ripped open or anything. There was just a lot of blood that spilled from his ears. Which was no less tragic, but it didn’t really affect him in the same way it was affecting Jayla. “You didn’t drag me into this. I would have found the body anyways.” He sighed debating on whether to tell her why he was there. “Well, if you must know, this place is my hide out. I know, so second grade, but my roommate is a jerk, and I like to get away.”
Zach turned to leave the house behind for now. “Well, I was going to come back, but I think your anonymous idea is way better. At least then neither of us can be blamed for anything.” He watched Jayla. She still seemed like she was very upset more than just someone who had just seen a dead body. He put his hand on her shoulder. “Jayla, you know there is no way you could have done something like this right? The guy must have died from a high pitched sound, which can’t possibly be traced back to you. It’s okay.” He thought he sounded convincing, but it didn’t seem like it was a good enough answer for Jayla. He could tell that she still thought it could possibly be her fault because she wasn’t exactly sure what had happened.

Jayla was actually fairly happy he didn't freak out, because if they both freaked out, it would be a mess, she was sure of it. When he told her, he was okay, she nodded. "Good." She said softly, as she looked at him, for a second longer than necessary, to make sure he was telling the truth.
When he said that he would have found the bodies anyway, she furrowed her brow in confusion. What did he mean with that? How could he have possibly have found the body? However, when he said that this was his hide-out, it made a lot more sense. "I get that." She said, deciding not to judge any further than she needed to, because it totally wasn't fair. Especially not at this point.
Jayla nodded, actually happy that he liked her idea. "Exactly." She said, as she nodded. When he placed a hand on her shoulder she looked up at him. "You're probably right." She said, already knowing what had really caused the man to die. And unforunately, he had been at the wrong place at the wrong time. She had caused this, it was just impossible to tell Zach that, because he would never ever look normally at her again. Just like with Jace, only worse.

Zach smiled when she said that she got that. It wasn’t every day that a supposed enemy said that she got where he was coming from. He liked this. Being able to be civil with each other. He never thought it’d be possible. After all, he was still trying to reconnect with Jace. Who knew he’d end up reconnecting with Jace’s best friend Jayla first.
“Wait, probably? You do realize you’re talking to Zach Cartel, right? I’m always right!” He pumped into her jokingly. He wanted to try and liven the mood a bit. I mean, there wasn’t much that could be done to make someone feel better when they saw a dead body, but for once in a long time he felt like he had a real friend. Someone who accepted his behavior or at least pretended to accept it. “So, how we find a pay phone then, shall we?” If they were going to call the police, they sure as hell weren’t going to call them off of his phone. He didn’t want them tracing the call.
