When life gives you apples, make apple juice. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And when life gives you sage sticks, burn them. Hanging the bundle over a candle, he burnt the top. Smoke rose in a cloud which melded into a curving strip of smoke rising as he sat it in a holder. It burnt luckily, not forcing Ev to break out the big guns. And by big guns, he meant his lighter. He wandered back behind the counter, the smell of sage filling the room. It smelt good, and he liked it. It wasn't like those hippy shopes who burn incense like vanilla and stuff. Unless you are trying to harmonize the soul, then vanilla sucks. Sage is awesome, so we will let it burn instead.
The front bell rang as more customers came in. It was a slow morning, but it bet having full on wicca craze. It was like a bunch of teens with heavy eye make-up and pentagrams tattoed over them rushing for the last bottle of newt eyes. It was - overwhelming to say the least. If only they knew that they were psycho! Ev is comfortably a 'witch' of sorts, and the goth look does not come with. In a v-neck and jeans, he looked and waited in the need of assistance or selling something. Apart from that, he stood and tried to look interested even though he would rather be at home - asleep and not thinking about work at all.
A long night it was. By long he meant that Xzavier and him spent the night staking out some chicks house because her husband was supposedly possessed by a demonic spirit of some psychotic sailor person. Ev wasn't exactly sure, but while Xzavier belt the living crap out of the guy Ev had to perform an exorcism. They aren't fun, which include the spirits testing if you are worthy to banish a spirit. Lots of blood spewing and spider bites, and not for the possessed husband. Ev covered them as much as he could be the way. "Hello. Can I help you with something?". He asked as he leant on the counter, trying to keep both eyes open.

Usually she would be out grabbing a coffee with her girl friends right about now, gossiping about the latest trends in the fashion industry, or the awkward moments they had encountered during their day at college, however she was in the 'bad' side of town, instead doing some shopping; though not for her standard jeans, jackets and low-cuts, but for potion vials, essence of osiris and possibly even a spider leg! Just depended on whether she was going to be really experimental tonight, or just try out a few basic things for fun. Who was she kidding? Of course she was going to be experimenting on the hard stuff, it was the only way she was going to be bettering herself. Making bunnies pop out of a black hat isn't going to make you a powerful witch...But apparently thats what some within the coven believe will happen, the exact sense that she tries to slap into those same people when practicing incantations.
Incantations were boring though, especially within her little coven. She wondered why she was with them half the time, but knew that by practicing with them she would learn new things and better herself, possibly at their own expense and knowledge. Thats why she would usually go home and have her own kind of fun with the incantations and actually make real magic happen...And powerful magic too! If she wished to do simple things, she would read a book on 'how to float a feather' or some lame stuff like that which seemed to be a huge achievement for some people. Not for her though, she had higher aspirations than simply floating feathers all day.
Walking into the only decent and 'real' magic shop within Los Angeles, she noticed that Everette was working. She smiled softly, first glancing around at the supplies, before going and approaching her fellow coven member. She eyed off some of the supplies inquisitively, before picking up some empty potion vials, essence of isiris and even a skull. She confidentally made her way to the counter that Everette was situated behind with another grin, greeting him. "Hey Everette, its good to see your putting your knowledge of magic to good use, as per usual." She smirked softly, putting her ingredients on the table for him to bag for her. "Are you going to that college night at the end of the week? Seems like a bit of fun, I thought I would prepare a few little things to add a little flavour to the night." Maybe she enjoyed using magic a little too much, but it was fun. Thats all that matters, right?

They gave him the brushoff. A helping hand is always appreciated - sometimes. Oh well, you can't help everyone. Looking down, he couldn't help but sigh. The boss had left a notice in the book saying Ev, could you please restock the powdered mushroom and the mandrake root. Don't forget to sort through the home postage and rain-check forms. Blessed Be. If Ev didn't love his boss then he would just forget it. Mandrake root was really common, especially with the wannabe witches who think it will enlighten any potion. Please, if mandrake root is supposed to be an energizer for any potion then Everette is party animal. He knew the stuff was in the back but looking over he grabbed a preped folder of paperwork. The negative side to the job but it had to be done. Since he was the only other worker, he had to do it.
Opening the book, he was barely able to do anything when he sensed her. Nothing can perk up your day then a visit from his second-least compatible person in the world. First came the irritating jock, but now came the superior cheerleader. He knew it was her because he could sense her. After the past few years it wasn't hard to sense Kyra from a crowd. She felt like a sweet and sour taste in your mouth, a sugary sweetness. But the sweetest candies can be as horrid as hell inside. Kyra wasn't that bad. Ev and her had a bit of an intolerance for each other but what they have gone through together, he couldn't dislike or dismiss her. Smiling, Ev looked at her as she spoke. "Kyra, whats doing?". She made some harrah about him putting magic to good use. He wasn't sure if this was snide Kyra talking but he smiled non the less. He wasn't a prick.
Looking down, he was a bit worried. A vial was fine, but looking down at essence of Osiris and a skull. That didn't make him feel very safe. Osiris was king of the dead and the invocations of that is to connect to the spirit world or - to raise the dead. The skull enforced that, and he worried. He wouldn't think that Kyra would be the kind of try this. It was risky, and even invoking the spirit could let out anything from demons to demonic spirits. He looked up at her, kind of worried and then heard her next question. "Uh, maybe. Depends if I'm free then. But what kind things do you have in mind? I know what magic and fun can turn into darls. Usually terror and worry". He put the items through on the register as he put them into a brown bag. Folding it over, he was about to put it over the counter. Since they were coven members, it wouldn't hurt in asking.
"Um, Kyra. Just asking - what are you planning to do with this stuff. I don't really need a spell book to tell you that a skull and essence of Osiris are some of the ingredients in invoking Osiris. Which is bad by the way. Or do you have something else in mind?". He didn't want to seem like the super superior guy who knows everything. He just worried. He didn't want Kyra hurting herself or anyone else. And with the magic this circle has been able to access, and Everette himself, there is no knowing what they are completely capable of.

Everette always had this way to brush off comments, whether snide or not with something casual like 'whats doing.' It was quite funny, slightly cute in a 'I don't go for cute innocent boys' kind of way. He wasn't those things...All of the time, he could be fun, she could admit, but he could also be draining. Especially when it came to magic. Suddenly he felt he was Albus Dumbledore or something like that giving magical lectures about whats right and wrong, good and bad. Dangerous and safe. She didn't need Everette caring so much about what she did in her magical spare time, not only because she couldn't stand Albus Dumbledore, but because she didn't need it from someone, especially someone from the coven who is supposed to understand her and their magical powers. If he had any real magic, maybe he might.
She feigned a sigh at his sudden booked out timetable. "Everette, there are seven days in the week, you don't get cramped up in here on all seven of them, and reading books and studying for things aren't any valid excuses either. I mean, if you don't wanna come, thats fine, I can certainly find fun without you, you know me. I think you should just loosen up a little, have a good time. You don't have magic to float feathers and pull rabbits out of a hat all day. Sometimes you gotta just let go for a moment, enjoy life, and magic a little." She wished he would sometimes, but he just had his head screwed on too damn well for that it seemed.
And here goes the standard Dumbledore lecture on her. Terror, worry, its all the same right? Its called fun, not everything has to lead to terror. At least not for us anyway." She chuckled softly. I'm just playing. But seriously, have you been to some of those parties? There are some good ones, then there are some shocking ones. Those ones are just pleading for a flavour boost."
She listened as he begun to question the motives behind these ingredients she was purchasing. Perhaps it wasn't always the best idea to get dangerous magical supplies at a place her fellow coven member was working, however it was the only decent place to find good things. So, he just had to live with it. "Oh, nothing much. Just planning on ressurecting my grandmother from the dead, nothing too serious, you know how it is." She chuckled again softly, shooting him a grin. "Hey, you could always join us, if you are too scared we are going to misuse these ingredients or something. I'd hate to keep you up all night worrying about an impending apocalypse, or something."

The master pursuader shown to him in the form of Kyra Chamberlain. She had such a way with words. If it was anyone else he would give them the brush off, but this guy was far to shy to be able to stand up to Kyra at work of all places. She isn't the devil, but she doesn't make someone feel completely and totally content in situations. He couldn't help but smile, trying not to let out a friendly chuckle while he was at it. He was pretty sure he probably killed the devil anyways. Shutting the filed book, he rested his hands on it and looked at her. She wasn't lying. The last time he went out for a good time was Christmas, and to normal people that was just sad. But with college, work, saving the world from evil, dealing with a 'young-at-heart' brother and the magic stuff; who has time to go out and have fun. Only the rest of his generation. God, what was he going to do now?
Her supposed plans for that night however were making him resist slightly. Fun magic resulted in badness and anything you let out you get back times three. It isn't all good, he wanted Kyra to see that. But having Everette at her ear and telling her the right and wrongs of magic wasn't right. It would be damn right annoying to him. So he decided to hold off on that, at least for now. But he was to protect people, it is actually a destiny thing, and he didn't want the experimentations of his coven to make things even more difficult. Especially if his brother found out, who was already a bit twitchy towards the 'magic' stuff and not really in a good way. Though if he is there and the rest of the coven, nothing could really go wrong. He just had to stop being such a naurotic little freak and take a chill pill, as they would say.
"Okay, fine. I'll come but a chill night okay. Fun but - sane night. Also, you know you can't have fun without me". This was Everette using sarcasm. Now we know the world is going to end. "We just need to be careful is all that I am saying. And if you want to use a bit of magic to spark up the night then - - - okay. Just keep it on the low key and no giant spells okay". He felt like a father, but not an excessively strict one. Handing her over the bag, he tapped his fingers on the table. He did however want to know why Kyra had these ingredients. It didn't make much sense because corpses of long periods of death would need a really powerful witch to ressurect it and no one close to anyone in the coven had died recently or he would know it. But she had something planned, and she wasn't being completely clear on what she was going to do.
He smirked at her response. Great, zombie grandmother's. What else could come to him. Demonic clown strippers? But the invite was out to join in on the spell. Regardless, she was going to do the spell. But with two people in the circle doing it and with Everette being such a control freak worry wart, he would feel so much more better that he would be there and could stop it at any time. "I finish work at five so I will be there then. Just - don't start the spell before I get there". She was probably going to slap him, but hopefully she will just take it as it is. "$22.50".

She actually felt quite proud of herself for managing to convince Everette to come along for the ride. He could be a fun guy and all, but he was all about good morales and not taking risks. Although he could be fun, he could also be not so fun at times also. Hopefully the fun Everette would turn up, though she had a feeling she might have to weasle it out of him. "Great, cool. And we could have a lot of fun without you, I just didn't want to leave you out or anything. As goody-too-shoes as you are about anything wiccan related, you are a member of our circle and therefore should come along for the fun, most of the time anyway. Hey, you could even invite Claire, I'm sure the fun would just ooze off the both of you." She laughed for a moment, teasing the boy. He and Claire were a lot alike afterall, they both shared these good morales about magic and were scared of getting in too deep.
She nodded sarchastically as he begun to lecture her. "Me? Lowkey? Always. You know me." She giggled softly. She had been trying some bigger spells behind most of the covens back, but who cares? Just because they were in a coven, didn't mean they had to inform everyone of every little nitty gritty detail of their magical experience. That just sounded draining just thinking about it, and destroyed the excitement of practicing secretly.
She smiled softly as he told her what time he was finishing. She pulled out her purse and have him the correct amount, before looking back up at him. "Of course I'll wait for you. I won't try 'the' spell without you, doesn't mean I won't have some spare time for others. After all, five o'clock is a long time away you know, and I just have all these magical ingredients lying around...Who knows what could happen in all of that time." She smirked teasingly. She picked up her bag, smiling again at him. "Have fun with all those customers," she stated with a coy smile as she begun walking out. She paused as she came to a shelf, looking back to see that he wasn't looking over in her direction, so she glared at one of the mummy hands lying on the shelf, helplessly. "Alive." She smiled as the small object begun to move around, wiggling almost like a spider, until it found itself off of the shelf. Seeing as he wouldn't have many customers, he should at least keep occupied trying to keep one of those at bay. It was only for fun, after all.

The sarcastic one she was, but at times Ev couldn't help but give her the eye-roll. When she targetted Claire, who Ev knew she didn't like too much, he tried not to seem like a snob but he didn't appreciated. Claire is a sweet girl who is unfortunately dating a jack off who - only Ev knew - that he was sleeping with Kyra. He kind of accidentally caught a peek on time when passing the janitor closet. If Claire found out, not only would it break her heart but it would break the circle. But given the right excuse Ev wouldn't hesitate to punch him in the face. His lips stayed cealed. "In that case, I had better get Claire then". Of course he would get her to go because a they would have a great time like they usually did. He was the best girl-friend that he had, and he wanted to hold onto that friendship. Even though to him he may feel a bit different.
Did she know the word? Kyra and lowkey was like telling a child not to touch anything when taking them to a museum. It was redundant. He knew that it was possible that the night would be spent cleaning up Kyra's messes and it would be good to have Claire there too. If she was planning some magical bash then he had to be prepared. It wasn't that he didn't like Kyra but - he didn't trust her. "Yeah, I do know you. That's why I am trying to emphasis this 'lowkey' thing. Not to be the party pooper and not to sound like the mystic police but the spirits won't be happy if we expose magic. But we will have fun". Worrying and chilled at the same time. It was one of the only ways to talk to Kyra without seeming like a loser.
Taking the cash, he popped the till open as he put the cash in and got out the change. He was almost distracted by her words. With Kyra he wasn't sure if she was just being smart or being serious. Who was he to say she couldn't do magic? But he would do anything to make sure that she didn't use those ingredients before he got there. It was too dangerous, even though they are advanced levels. Not to brag but being the middle child of the Brother's Trinity, magic was not much of being a piece of cake for Ev. Chuckling nervously, he responded. "Kyra, please don't make me freak out. Five o'clock okay, do whatever you want with white magic before you go onto that stuff. Okay?". Now she was going. He was still worried. "I will. See ya darls".
Opening the book again, he began filling. Thoughts of the magic that the ingredients could cause flooded through his mind. He had to find out what it could do, and in the back was the books on the powerful magics. It was employee use only and Ev didn't even let the circle look at them mostly because they didn't know about them. There was only two other customers flicking through history books so he quickly zipped out back. What he found was worrying. A Book Called 'The Deathly One' had lists of Osiris invocations. He looekd through quickly spotted ressurection spells, invoking the power of Osiris into yourself, communicating with the underworld spirits and more. He really didn't like this now. Before he could look into it more, he heard a scream. His heart jumped and before he knew it he was running back into the front of the store. His eyes shot open.
A woman fell onto the ground, clutching her throat. Ev was shocked. Was that - no it couldn't be. Running up, he saw a mummy hand wrapped around he neck. Oh god! The hand had a demonically tight grip, and Ev didn't know what to do now. "Oh my god". Knealing down, he grabbed onto the hand and pulled. It pulled the woman up slightly, but the hand wasn't breaking its grip. He pulled more but with no luck. He tried again, this time harder. Even worse luck. Then suddenly, looking at the hand it shot upwards. A telekinetic control against the hand as it shot upward, wide like a chinese fan and hit the ground. He focused more, now really in a pissed of mood. "Fire!". The wrapping on the hand smoked as it caught fire. The flames burst upwards as the hand twitched. How did this happen? Unless it was something trying to mess with his head or.. No, he couldn't think it could be Kyra. Unless she was giving him a preview to the weekend ahead. No, he couldn't think that. Concentrating, the fire extinguished as he bowed down to help the woman. "Here, let me get you fixed up". She stood up limply, clutching her throat and coughing as he directed he towards back as Ev continuously glimpsed around the store. Somebody did this, and he wanted to know who.
