Lily looked around at the bustling shops as she brushed through the crowds of people shopping on an early Saturday morning. She turned towards a larger store filled with new electronics, including cameras. She didn't really have the extra cash for a new camera, but maybe she could just price a few...
Her mouth watered as she walked into the store and went over to the cameras. Her current one was an older model, and didn't zoom out as much as she would have liked it to. She had to get closer to her take than she would have liked, and it made her edgy.
"Ohh baby look at you," Lily murmured as she reached out to pick up the camera on display. The price made her wince, but she thought it would be worth it. Maybe she could eat ramen for a couple of weeks. Maybe some high paying client would come Monday to offer her a job. She really could use the extra money... She felt someone staring at her. She knew the feeling, the hair prickling on the back of her neck and her heart beating just a little faster as the awareness of someone’s eyes on her kicked her system into overdrive.
She looked up, noticing someone staring at her. She felt her heart sink, then rise into her throat as her gaze traced the familiar lines of his face, looked into those familiar eyes. “Xzavier…” The glow she felt from holding the expensively amazing camera slowly drained as she saw him. Her heart thudded painfully a few times before she managed to settle it without lifting her hand to her throat to shove it back down to her chest. “Fancy seeing you here.”

Xzavier walked into the shopping center. Why am I here again? he asked himself as he looked the crowd. Then, he remembered: he needed a new camera since his had died. The plan had been to beat the crowds, get the camera, and go home. However, it hadn't worked out that way. He walked into a camera shop. He entered and---his eyes locked onto a woman holding an expensive-looking camera. She was half Asian with with long black hair. Lily, he thought as his pulse started to race. The one woman who could always break down his walls...as much as he hated to admit it. But they could never be together. She didn't know about the supernatural realm and if they were together, the other creatures found out about her...he didn't even want to think about that. Gathering his courage, he walked up besider her. "Xzavier...Fancy seeing you here." "Pure coincidence. I just happen to need a new camera since mine busted. However, there is no way I can I can afford something like that," he responded. He fidgeted for a few seconds. "So...how have you been?" he asked.

Lily tried to breath. It wasn't working all that well, but at least she didn't wheeze. She felt her chest tingle with the first signs of panic, but she fought it back and refused to let it show on her face. "I needed a new one too," She said, looking down at the camera she held in her hands. When he said he'd never be able to afford it, she felt a strong urge to buy the thing just to show him how well she was coming along with her firm.
"The zoom on my current camera isn't very far, and I can't equip it with a longer lens. I figured this would be a good buy." She shrugged slightly, before she let her eyes roam back up to his face. "You look good," She told him. "Glad to see you looking so well. How've you been?" Well, if she had to see him again, the least she could do was be civil. Right?
Will someone shoot me? Fry me with lightning? Something?

"The zoom on my current camera isn't very far, and I can't equip it with a longer lens. I figured this would be a good buy," she told him. Xzavier nodded. "That makes sense," he agreed. "Glad to see you look so well. How've you been?" she asked. Xzavier frowned. She had avoided his question: something she only did when things weren't going well in her personal life. Okay, don't press it. She'll just clam up, he reminded himself. "I'm good. Things have been a little hectic for me and Everett, but we're both doing good," he told her. "And you? What's going on with you?" he continued.

Lily realized she had dodged his question on how she was. She felt a twinge of... What? Guilt? She bit it back. "I've been doing fine by the way," She said, trying not to fidget. She put the display camera back down, before she turned to face him fully. "I'm glad you and Everette have been doing okay."
She glanced away before she looked back up into his face. "Just working," She said with a half shrug. "Not had time for a lot. Work kind of sucks up all my time." She blinked as something flitted through her mind. Should she tell him about Axel? She didn't think there was a connection, despite the fact that the two had the same last name. She had figured it was just a coincidence, but why was she feeling like there was something here? Something familiar that wasn't just Xzavier? She'd think about it before she brought it up.
"So..." What would she say? Jesus, why was she so bad at talking to people? "What have you and Everette been up to lately?" Safe enough topic, right? "I haven't seen you guys since..." Oh crap. Now she'd stepped in it. "You know," She finished lamely.

"I've been doing fine, by the way," she added. "That's good to hear," he told her. "I'm glad you and Everette have doing okay." "Thanks." "So..." He waited as she hesitated. "What have you and Everette been up to lately?" "Not much. My work at the garage's been pretty steady. Everette's been keeping to himself and I wanna give him space...you know?" he responded. "I haven't seen you guys since..." She hesitated again. "You know," she finished. "Since we broke up," he supplied. "Look, I know you were hurt and confused about the way I broke it off, and I'm sorry for that. But please trust me when I say it was for the best," he stated. I get into some deep crap and I'm not going to let it touch her, he thought to himself. He'd die first.

"Space is... Good." She shrugged. She couldn't understand what it was like to have a brother. Or even a sister. She had been an only child, she she had been lonely growing up. She didn't know why Xzavier and Everette would want to spend much time apart though. While she could understand them needing space, it seemed like Xzavier rarely saw his brother. Or maybe she was just reading too much into it.
Lily physically flinched at Xzavier's words. "I don't want to talk about it," She said with a snap in her voice. She snatched up the box of the camera she wanted and stalked over to the register. She didn't know if Xzavier would follow her, but if she knew him, she knew he would be too stubborn to drop it. She turned to boil his blood with a glare. If only it'd really work like that. She felt more herself now, with that righteous fury inside her. She huffed, before she turned away to stand impatiently in line to buy the camera she really couldn't afford.

"Space is...Good," she said with a shrug. Xzavier nodded. Yes it was. Then, he watched as Lily's face flinched. "I don't want to talk about it," she snapped. Xzavier nodded. He expected that. Then, he watched as she got into line. "So you're going to buy it, huh?" he asked. Then, he went over to another aisle of cameras. If she didn't want to talk about thier breakup, he wasn't going to press it. Truthfully, he wasn't really interested in rehashing it himself. Then, he saw a small silver camera and picked it up. He frowned when he saw the price. Way too much, he thought to himself. He then went over to a black camera and looked at the price. With each camera, he looked at, his frown got deeper and deeper. "Ahhhh...forget it. I'm outta here," he declared and headed for the exit.

Lily had just bought the camera, heading towards the exit. She paused as she saw Xzavier heading out as well. "What? Decide the cameras weren't worth it?" She frowned at him as she tucked the bag over her arm and strode out beside him. She didn't really want to talk to him anymore, didn't even want to see him. In all honesty, she wanted to kick his ass, or at least punch him in the eye.
Honestly, all that anger towards him couldn't be healthy for her.
She jerked to a stop. "Why?" She snapped, unable to bear it anymore. The word just popped from her mouth. "Can you at least tell me why?" God, oh god what am I doing? Why do I want to know? I should just forget it and walk away. Just... Walk away.
"Can't you at least tell me why?" She asked it again, her voice softer now. She couldn't quite meet his gaze as she felt her heart crumple in her chest. She was so not good at these kinds of things. She hated feeling emotional.

Xzavier had almost made it to the exit when he heard her speak. "Why?" she asked. He turned around. "Excuse me?" he queried. "Can't you at least tell me why?" she asked softly. Because in my line of work, creatures with supernatural powers come after me and they could kill you before you would even have time to blink, he thought to himself. However, he couldn't tell her that. "Because I was no good for you," he replied. "I never was. And I never will be," he continued. Then, he walked out to the door and hurried through the mall, trying to ignore the ache in his chest.

"Because I was no good for you. I never was. And I never will be."
Lily glanced up at him. She saw, just before he turned away, a flash of something. Something rose in her chest that she ignored, not wanting to think about just then. "Xzavier..." She called after him softly, but didn't follow him as he turned and walked quickly from the mall.
Lily scrolled back through the conversation in her mind. That flash of something, Lily knew Xzavier well. He hadn't been lying, not completely. But he hadn't been completely truthful either. She looked down at the bag she held clutched in one white-knuckled grasp. It was a good thing she'd bought the camera with an extended zoom, she'd realized.
She was going to need it if it would help her find out why Xzavier was lying. That strange feeling in the back of her mind buzzed again. Something felt wrong, like he was in trouble. Had he broken up with her because he'd gotten mixed up with the mob? She had seen pain in his eyes, or thought she had. Maybe he'd gotten mixed up with a gang? She didn't think he would do something like that... But still...
"What have you gotten yourself into? And what am I getting into trying to help...?"
